Songs for Memorial Weekend

I have 2 songs, "Angel In Black" and "Devil's Dune", that were written to honor our troops. I put them at the top of my song list every patriotic holiday week. They need to be heard. They are both well-written, interesting songs. Both tell a story.

Angel In Black tells about 2 young people that are in love and want to get married but first, he must respond to his deployment to the mid-east. He calls her Angel and he promises to come back. He doesn't make it. There's a line in the last verse that goes "His spirit rose to see his Angel in Black, Arlington graveside."

Factoid: The day after I posted this song on FaceBaok, photographer Matt Matthews, posted the picture that ended up on my CD cover, backside, showing a young woman on her knees, dressed in black at an Arlington grave site with the spirit of a soldier behind her with his hand on her shoulder. It made me shudder when I saw the photo because it fits the song so perfectly It was the picture of that line from the bridge of the song! I contacted Matt, whom I've never met, and he graciously allowed me to use his photo.

The other song is "Devil's Dune". This one was written during our 2003 invasion of Iraq. I tried to put myself in the place of the soldiers and I thought about what thought would most recur to them. Going home is what I came up with and from what I've been told over the years by many vets, I was correct in that assumption.

Anyway, I hope you will listen to these tunes many times and enjoy what they have to say and the honest and sincere sentiment behind them. Have a great holiday weekend!

TODAY’S CHART POSITIONS: #5 National, #7 Global

It is amazing to me that I continue to be in a race to the top of this chart! YOU can help me get to #1 very easily. The key is in online fan activity. Do any of these things. VISIT, PLAY, VIEW, CLICK THROUGH, SHARE. Visit my web site or my ReverbNation profile page Play my songs. Have you heard “Back In The Game”? View a video. Have you seen the Contarian CD Sampler? Click through the pages, look at photos, read my bio and blogs, look around. SHARE. Most importantly, share my site, posts, songs, videos and so forth, on your social media pages. This is the stuff that is being measured and this is the stuff that got me to the Top-5 of the National Indie Chart.

ReverbNation is online home to 3,000,000 artists. They are divided into 43 genres, i.e. Rock, Metal, Country, Singer/Songwriter, Folk, Jazz, New Age, Spoken Word, Hip-Hop, Reggae, Indie and so forth. There’s no way of knowing how many are in each genre and some genres are much larger or smaller than others. Well, there is a way. One would have to click-through hundreds of pages of the chart until they got to the end. If the artists divided evenly into 43 genres, each genre would have 71,000 artists in it. But like I said, the genres vary in size. I suspect, but I do not know, that the Indie genre is comprised of, at least,30,000 artists. Some in the business have told me my estimate is way low but, I’d prefer to err on the low side. To be in the Top-5 is remarkable to me and you helped get me there! By the way, did you listen to “Angel In Black/Into The Light” It’s a work that I am extremely proud of. LISTEN HERE, NOW THIS IS HUGE! I can see #1 on my horizon but I WILL NOT GET THERE WITHOUT YOUR HELP! PLEASE HELP ME GET TO #1! HOW FANS CAN HELP ME RISE FURTHER UP THE CHART: It’s so easy visit my pages at www.reverbnation.com/fremontjohn and/or, at www.fremontjohn.com , play my songs, view videos, read the bio, blogs or whatever. It all helps. NEXT: Be sure to SHARE my posts and my songs on all your social media pages. SHARING IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Thanks so much!

TODAY’S CHART POSITIONS: #9 National, #12 Global

The charts are smiling on me again as I re-enter the Top-10 on the National Indie Chart at ReverbNation! I really do see #1 on my horizon but, this could take awhile to realize. And, of course, it’s completely up to the fans. I really have no affect on the direction of the chart. They measure the numbers of visits, plays, video views, schedule views and more. They measure the online fan activity at ReverbNation. Activity at my web site also contributes to this since so much of my web site is linked to RN. Your reading of this blog today contributes to the numbers. It all helps! By the way, did you listen to “Angel In Black/Into The Light” yesterday? It’s a work that I am extremely proud of and it is also the perfect song for any veterans holiday like Memorial Day. LISTEN HERE, NOW CHANGE TO BLOG POSTING FOR CHART TRACKING: The daily blog posts are something I started to keep people in the loop and help everyone, who has interest, to follow my progress up, and/or down the charts. However, I am thinking that a WEEKLY BLOG, one that summarizes the week’s activity, may work just as well and be less redundant and repetitive. I also have a lot of traveling coming up and staying on top of a daily blog-post is going to be difficult. So, look for another one of these in a week. It is completely safe to say that the Indie genre is comprised of tens of thousands of artists. To be in the Top-10 or Top-20 out of 30,000, 40,000, 50,000 or, more artists is HUGE! That is why I am trying to generate some excitement over this. THIS IS HUGE!

TODAY’S CHART POSITIONS: #11 National, #14 Global

Oops, I slipped again, down 4 from yeterday’s #7 to #11 today on the National chart and from #9 to #14 Globally. I texted a musician friend yesterday to ask her if she had been following my ascension up the ReverbNation Indie charts. I explained that this is HUGE because this chart is comprised of tens of thousands of musicians. She wrote back that she had no idea of huge this was and that of course, she’d start paying closer attention and helping me out on the online social networks, sharing and re-posting, as I have been asking everyone to do. I think her reaction is probably pretty typical of most people. ReverbNation is primarily an online music community. There are some fans there, some venues, labels and promoters but musicians make-up the vast majority of members. So, most people are not that familiar with it. So, what’s the big deal? ReverbNation is the largest online music community, home to THREE MILLION artists. Those artists are broken down into 43 genres from Ambient to Indie, Rock, Country, Blues, Spoken Word, World and so forth. If each genre were the same size which, they are not, they would have about 70,000 artists. But some genres are very big, Rock and Hip-Hop for instance. So, they have more. Some genres, like Spoken Word, are not so large. My genre is Indie and it is probably in the middle or a little bigger. I can see #1 on my horizon but I WILL NOT GET THERE WITHOUT YOUR HELP! PLEASE HELP ME GET TO #1! HOW FANS CAN HELP ME RISE FURTHER UP THE CHART: You can absolutely have a hand in this chart rise and help me to go all the way to #1. Here’s how: Every page visited at my website or at my ReverbNation profile page, every click, every song played, every photo or video viewed, blog page read, comment left or every purchase made, everything counts as fan activity. Online fan activity is driving this. It is also very important to SHARE my posts, music or, any of my content on your social media pages. It will really help to get it out there where ever we can. The chart we are trying to affect is, of course, at ReverbNation.com. The most direct way then, to help is to visit my profile at ReverbNation While there, play my songs, explore the profile pages, and so forth. Many of the pages at my website such as Bio, Videos, Show Schedule and Merchandise are also linked to ReverbNation so, your helping there, too. Look over my web site, click through it and explore. Several pages at my FaceBook Music Page also link back to ReverbNation. So, there it is, online fan activity is going to drive my rankings up. Hitting the Top-10 is a huge accomplishment but, being #1 will result in press releases and an even bigger push to climb the chart, the granddaddy of ReverbNation charts, the all-genre chart where I’m ranked against, not just Indie artists but against all 3,000,000 ReverbNation artists. TODAY’S CHART POSITIONS: #9 National, #11 Global

It is a real surprise to me each and every morning when I log-in to ReverbNation and see my new status. It blows me away to be in the national Top-10. And it is amazing that I continue to trend upward. One can’t help but wonder, “Will I get to #1?” Is that even possible for me? That top spot seems so close, now. My gratititude to all the fans who are doing this, I’m not doing it, runs very deep. I wrote the songs, recorded them and uploaded them to ReverbNation and all of sudden, like a rocket, I sped upward on their charts. My part ended, mostly, when I uploaded the songs. BTW: I uploaded a new song, “Angel In Black”. It is from the CONTRARIAN CD and it is the perfect MEMORIAL DAY SONG, to remind us of the sacrifices made by so many and also, to remind us of how very ugly war is. This tune tells a story and the music is utterly beautiful. I know that’s me saying it but just give a listen and see for yourself. I will continue to post the following section in my blogs during this “race to the top” for those who want to participate in my chart rise. That’s what it is. It’s your participation making it all happen. On that chart, I am currently ranked #575.

Oops! I'm back to #11. Will you help me?

TODAY’S CHART POSITION - #11: Oh darn! Today, I slipped a little on the charts. I’m down one to #11 on the Nat’l Indie Chart this morning. However, on the overall, big-picture chart where genre is not considered and I’m ranked with all 3 million ReverbNation artists, I am up by 102 to #615. IT’S ALL IN THE HANDS OF THE FANS: A lot of fans are really pushing this trying hard to get my rankings higher. And, of course, that’s what is required. It just will require more help. Nobody’s just going to hand the #1 slot to me, it must be earned. I’m the one that is ranked but it’s the fans who are doing all the work at this point. I’ve written and recorded the songs and published them so they are out there. It’s largely out of my hands. I could invest some money and advertise and market but, it still comes down to the fans making it happen. WHY DO FANS WANT TO HELP? Because it’s fun and it’s a collective thing. How often do you get an opportunity to actually feel like you contributed directly to an artist’s chart rankings and ultimate success? Most of my fans, not all, but many, actually know me, have met me somewhere and talked, have signed CDs and so forth. They love the idea of being a part of this knowing that we are all doing it together. #10 - I broke the National Indie Chart Top-10 today!!

Hi,

This is exciting news for me. I really want to keep everyone apprised of this rise up the charts at ReverbNation. It started about a month ago. I had been in the low 40's and 50's off and on for awhile. Then, I broke the Top-40 and I kept breaking into new territory. About 10 days ago I was at #21 and I saw the Top-20 coming my way. The numbers just kept stepping down from there 18, 14, 12, and now, 10.

This is exciting because ReverbNation represents so very many musical artists, about 3 million. They're all broken down by 25 or 30 genres, Rock, Metal, Country, Blues, Folk, Indie and so forth. It is safe to say that there are 10s of thousands of artist in the Indie genre. To be in the Top-10 is quite something.

My progress is now being reported on my web site with more detail in my blog there. Going forward, you can follow my progress there. HELP ME RISE FURTHER UP THE CHART:

You can absolutely have a hand in this chart rise and help me go all the way to #1. Here's how:

Every page visited at my website or at my ReverbNation profile page, every click, every song played, every video viewed, blog page read, comment left or every purchase made, everything counts as fan activity. Online fan activity is driving this. It is also very important to SHARE my posts, music or, any of my content on your social media pages. It will really help to get it out there where ever we can. #12-Nat'l Indie Chart - Will I break the Top-10?

#14 on Nat'll Indie Chart & More Good News!

Thank you! Yesterday, I asked for your support and you came through. Today, I find myself ranked at #14 on the National Indie Chart! There are nearly 3 million artists on ReverbNation. There are genres much bigger than Indie, like Rock, Hip/Hop, Country and so forth. How many artists are in the Indie genre? I have no way of knowing that, but it is fair to say, many thousands. What drives this? Fan activity. But people have to like what they hear or, there is no fan activity. What they are hearing are the songs from my new CONTRARIAN CD. And now, every visit, every click on my schedule, every play, every video play, every comment posted at my profile on ReverbNation counts toward my chart position. It is all fan activity! Several of the pages at my official website such as, Bio, Schedule, Merchandise and so forth are also linked to ReverbNation. So, if you haven't visited my new website yet, now's a good time to see it and help me rise up the chart at the same time. This has happened a bit fast and the new CD doesn't even show as available on my Merchandise page, yet. We're working to correct that ASAP. For now, GO HERE TO BUY CONTRARIAN Can I go to #1? It is certainly looking possible but, it depends on you and the fan activity. The rest of the chart numbers look like this: #1, Indie Artist - Tampa Bay #14 Indie Artist - National #17 Indie Artist - World #1111 All genres (out of all 3 million ReverbNation member artists!) Please SHARE my music on all your social media sites and pages, too. This really helps! Links are at the bottom. I'm sorry for so many e-mails lately but, I just want to keep you in the loop while this chart climb is progressing. OTHER NEWS: My song, "The Message" has been accepted into long-term rotation (18-24 mos.) at BBS Radio. "The Message" is a track from the CONTRARIAN CD. BBS Radio consists of 2 Talk stations and a 24-hour commercial-free music station. "The Message" will get play on all 3 stations but it may play up to 10 times/day on the music station HEAR "THE MESSAGE" Thank you so much, for your continued support. Yours in Music, Fremont John
