The Bret Harte Breakers Who We Are Movin’ & Shakin’ in the small town of Arcata, CA, the band is made up of Gena Trimarco, on fiddle & vocals, Brett Vivyan on guitar, harmonica & vocals, Daven Tyler on djembe & guitar, Barrett Shepherd on Bass & guitar. Our first album, Wednesday Night, was recorded in a basement on a free trial version of Adobe Audition! Beggars can’t be choosey. It is mainly the brainchild of two of the three founding members. Brett's song 'Brett's Riff' has been played more than a few times on local Humboldt radio station KHUM, much to our excitement. We have a demo CD with a few new original songs including “Georgia” and “This Weekend” that have also received some radio play. They had heard about Bret Harte’s brave and scathing expose on the massacre of local Wiyot Indians on Indian Island in 1860. He was the visiting editor of the Arcata paper at the time. The band admired him for publishing the truth and speaking up for the indigenous people. Our single 'This Weekend' was written after hearing KHUM's DJ, Larry Trask, challenge any local band to write a song about the weekend. He said if it was somewhat decent and didn't make his "ears bleed" he guaranteed he would play it every Friday afternoon with his montage of weekend songs. That was over a year ago and the song has gotten a great response from audiences. We'll see if Larry remembers his on air promise once we finally finish the recording and get it to him! If not, we'll still have to thank him for the inspiration, it turned into something much more than a ploy to get on the radio, it's something we’re quite proud of. Hopefully we will record more of our songs soon and have an album that represents the current state of the band.
