Apps, Apps, Apps!

I'm fascinated with the new communications medium of apps. It's clear that mobile technologies is not the wave of the future...it's here! I am enjoying the new connectivity with friends and supports of my music through the RWS Music apps for iPhone and Android. If you have not downloaded this free app, I hope you will do so. It contains media content including the audio, photo and video content on my ReverbNation page.

I'm also very pleased to share another app for all musicians and music students. The APS MusicMaster Pro is a suite of music apps in one "wrapper". The latest update for the iPad is amazing and is currently in the final approval stages with Apple. I expect it to be released sometime next week.

Also...for iPhone and iPod Touch users, the APS MusicMaster will be released next week as well. This is a suite of apps clearly related to the more powerful iPad version. However, to have a tuner, metronome, PDF view/annotator, recorder, audio player, resource materials, etc. in my pocket in the form of a phone is something I could have only dreamed about a few years ago.

I have a variety of apps that I use on a regular basis. I recently presented a series of iPad presentations for musicians in Atlanta, Seattle and at the Music For All Summer Symposium in Indiana. Please feel free to download the PowerPoint presentation for the most recent session at the link below. In addition to recommended apps and accessories, there are active links in the PowerPoint that will provide additional information.

For those that will be in Chicago next week at the annual Midwest Clinic, please stop by to see me at the C.L. Barnhouse booth (on the right as you enter the exhibit hall). I will be there and am happy to share these app resources with you as well as the new music.

Best wishes to all for a happy holiday season!

WIBC 2011 - Seattle

I just returned from an amazing experience in Seattle, WA. I had the honor of performing with over 600 talented student musicians from across the United States and Australia. In addition to conducting two new compositions (Relativo, Benjamin Franklin and the Art of Music), I was fortunate to conduct "Brazil: Ceremony, Song and Samba" with a combined band of over 300. What an amazing effect with that many musicians literally "grooving" together. There was no issue of timing in this large mass of musicians giving credence to the power of the music and its universality!

To the WIBC staff and the tireless McKee family, thank you for all you do for music and music education. You are truly making a difference in our world! To Allen Vizzutti, Frank Troyka, Dr. Linda Morehouse, Brian Hogg and Mike Bankhead, the gifted conductors and artists that allowed me to share the podium with them, I am grateful for the opportunity to work with you.

To conductors worldwide, I urge you to send your developing musicians to this event held every November in Seattle, Washington. It is truly a life-changing experience for all!

Finally, to the musicians of the 2011 WIBC, thank you for the time, energy and passion as you prepared and performed a variety of literature under a variety of batons. Your performances were spectacular. I am honored that you shared your time and talent with me.

Until next time, best wishes to all!

New Audio Added to the Site

I've just added a few new audio tracks to the site. In addition to works that you may be familiar with, I've added a couple of pieces you may find interesting. The recording of "Currents" is by the American Symphonic Winds of Washington D.C. The recording of "Monument" is by a wonderful Japanese professional ensemble in Osaka.

I hope you enjoy the music!

Symphony No. 3 "Don Quixote"

The CD recording of "Don Quixote" is now only days away from its release later this month. I hope that you will enjoy the new music. I actually finished the composition in Spain last summer. The piece was premiered in Denia and the CD was recorded in Lliria. Both of these beautiful locations are in the Valencia area.

I will share more details as part of the official release through Walking Frog Records at www.walkingfrog.com.

Best wishes!

Writing In Navarre

I've just spent the week in Navarre, FL writing for the upcoming Ryder Cup. I've been working in collaboration with Michael King (http://www.michaelkingmusic.com) and Gregory Byrne (University of Louisville Band) in preparation for the big fall event.

Be sure to tune in for the opening ceremonies. It should be spectacular!

Best wishes.
