A new CD of songs by Steve Percival released to raise funds for CRY

CD EP ‘Don’t Cry’ is released on 08.10.11 to raise awareness and funds for UK charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). Every week in the UK, 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die from undiagnosed heart conditions. Sometimes referred to as Sudden Death Syndrome, these conditions may be detected with relatively simple tests and perhaps even treated with surgery. This CD features 4 original songs, one written specifically for the charity, by North East singer/songwriter Steve Percival. The songs feature a host of musicians from the North East who gave their time freely to support the project. Steve explains ‘Since losing a friend in 2002 to one of these silent cardiac conditions that kill so many young people in the UK every year, I’ve wanted to write a song for CRY.’ The title track also features Bon Achord, a 16-member choir from County Durham who will be performing with Steve at the regional launch party for the CD on October 7th in the Jubilee Hall, West Rainton, Durham, DH4 6NU from 7pm. Steve adds, ‘I hope the song acknowledges the inevitable sadness that is felt, but also the importance of treasuring those things that are left you and celebrating a life, however young. It was difficult to write but I hope people will find it easy to relate to’. The CD was recorded at Quayside Studios in Newcastle, mixed by Julien Batten and Produced by Steve and Will Lang, and will be available from CRY’s online shop as well as regional record stores. All proceeds from its sale will go directly to the charity’s core works. Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD) is an umbrella term for a number of different heart conditions that affect fit and healthy people which, if not treated can result in a dramatic and or / spontaneous death. In about one in 20 cases of sudden cardiac death, no recognised cause can be found – even after post-mortem. This is then called Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). Many experts are now claiming that the actual number of deaths recorded could just be ‘the tip of the iceberg’. CD available from http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/dont_cry.htm
