When you really think about it, great music is magic. It can evoke emotions, make and bring back memories, convey new thoughts and ideas, inspire other artists, tell stories, and spur people into action. Robots can't make Magic! :-)
For years I coveted Neil Young's main axe "Old Black," a Gibson 53 Les Paul Gold Top with a minihumbucker at the bridge and a Bigsby tremelo. So I bought an Epiphone 56 Les Paul Gold Top and went to work. I swapped out the stock pickups for a set of Lollar P-90s, then replaced the the stock pots and switches with Gibson electronics. Once I finished the installation, I decided to take it on a test drive. I was working on recording "Anger Grows Reprise" at the time and decided to play against the tracks rough tracks to get the feel of the new modified guitar and how it sounds. The thing blew me away. The tone and feel were incredible. The guitar produced an incredible lead and fill track in one take. When I played it back, I knew I had captured some magic. Take a listen if you get the chance, and let me know what you think. I now have my own "Old Black." - Kerry
