This is it, or is it?

Some times you reach the point where you say "Ok this is it, if I don't succeed at this I'm done and no one cares any ways ". So you go through with your last plan on how to create the art, then perfect the art. Then the most important thing to a musician, truly believe in, and express the art. Sharing a song with other people is to me the most rewarding thing I have discovered in this life. Back to the part where this is it. When I came up with this solo guitar instrumental idea, No one was supposed to listen or pay attention, If I was lucky maybe I would get to play a bar or club here and there and far and few between most likely everyone would have their back to me anyway who cares? Much to my surprise however,(and it even scares me and makes me nervous on stage to this day) (something to which I'm almost never afraid of is playing for people) the whole thing took off wildly better than I could have imagined. It Just goes to show that if you can project the truth in your music people can really pick up on that. and that goes for any genre, even any kind of art. There is truth to throwing a paint bucket on a canvass. There is truth in taking a beautiful photo. I'll tell you now what that truth is and the secret behind it. Here is the truth, all people are searching at all times for the next best memory, so they can store that memory in their minds and recall it at any time. the secret is as an artist you need to be able to project out and reach into that space and captivate it! and out of that is born something special, beautiful, amazing, electrifying. Dare I say unforgettable. So to anyone reading this, as I usually think about the things I do is probably no one cares but there may be one who does see your dream! live it. imagine it coming true every single day until it begins to actually happen. put the work in, love the friends, and if your not successful be there supporting those who are. Give your all, and I can guarantee you'll be surprised that maybe instead of this is it, maybe its that this is just the beginning .....Peace out - Brock

That perfect take

True perfection...... that's what every artist seeks when they are laying down that specific drum track or guitar part or vocal melody. My latest song The Awakening Is a tough one. Not from a solo over chords standpoint, But capturing the true essence of the art of storytelling with only instruments. If your like me most of the time you can visualize something in your head, think of something, a project .... now bring that project to reality, and its inevitably probably different from that picture or sound locked in the deepest recesses of our minds. the best painters and musician , any artisan if you will, the best of the best almost always capture what the conjure up in their imaginations. So back to my song, "The Awakening " what does it mean? what is the picture that the sound represents. To me with the way it starts out, with the distorted bass guitar represents some sort of creature that has emerged from eons of slumber! the point at which it wakes up, enraged at all of mankind and wishes to do malice and harm to us, is where the solo starts. now......... GO CAPTURE THAT! what does it take ? well in my opinion a lead guitar track that would capture that would include but not limited to weird noises created with the guitar screeches, moans, and wailing and just the right amount of virtuosic shred to match the general movement and flow that can keep someone interested in what lies around the next corner is it a flurry of notes? Is it a wide vibrato or bend?, or is it a long sustaining note? I don't know yet either and that's the fun, problem is its got to be perfect, it needs to say something not just be mindless noise or shredding , Hope you take a listen when the piece is in and finished ~Brock
