June Happenings

Here's just a few things going on. Go to our website for the full newsletter. We will start publishing it there.

If you are in the St. Louis Metro area, Barley Station will be performing on the Fox 2 News Morning Show with Tim Ezell at 9am. If you're not in St. Louis, you can watch it Live here: http://fox2now.com/on-air/live-streaming/

So tell your family, friends, neighbors, your neighbors' friends and your friends' neighbors to tune in to the Fox 2 News Morning Show June 14th, at 9am to watch Barley Station rock the house!

After rehearsing with us for the past month or so, we are happy to announce the addition of our long sought after permanent drummer - enter: Nil De Silva! Welcome Nil!! (pronounced Neal) You'll see Nil in the new pictures.

Yes, the newest pictures our June 2012 photo shoot are beginning to appear! (Check our facebook, twitter, or website, etc.) Our favorite one is the one where it looks like we are somewhere in the Galactic Republic, minus a droid or a wookie. Pure photography, no photoshopped effects. We thought it would be fun to experiment with some nighttime photography and all the cool things you can do with that environment. So there will be some more very interesting pictures being added soon enough.

You can now find us on Google+. We're still working out the kinks but its there! Here's the link: http://plus.google.com/102517984534530218017 Now once Google gets some audio and other plug-ins they'll be ready to compete with ...er... the competition! :)

And don't forget to follow us on twitter here http://www.twitter.com/barleystation and Randy and Brian (the songwriting core) at our individual twitters: Randy here: http://www.twitter.com/randywaynebelt or @randywaynebelt and Brian here: http://www.twitter.com/brianolenkious or @brianolenkious

added some dates: St. Louis, MO on June 29 and we will be playing with bands, The Homewreckers and Soma Jet Set. Also added Chicago, IL on July 27 at a really cool venue called The Elbo Room that broadcasts the performances live on internet stream. We have had to reschedule our Stevens Point, Wisconsin date, so hopefully soon, we'll have that back on the calendar! And with that, a thanks goes out to Jim at 90FM in St. Point, WI for the 30,000 watt air support! More shows to come so keep an eye out.

We are also happy to let you all know that for the month of March our album (released on Feb 29, 2012) ended the month at #10 on the APD Global Radio Indicator Charts ™ in Country/Alt. sharing the top 10 with such other wonderful artists as Willie Nelson, Kristy Cox, Michelle Turley, David Allan Coe, and the Roys, to name a few. And are back in the top 10 again so far for April! So what are you waiting for? Go buy it! :) Physical copies here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/barleystation5 or on itunes at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/after-all/id507047384 ------------------------------------------- And a special thanks to all the Helpers and Promoters and to Radio Stations, DJs, Programmers, etc. who have spun our music! Wish we could list you all here but that would not be practical. We are, however, considering a page on our website devoted to airplay; a place where those who like our music can find where to request us, etc. ----------------------------------------------- Tours: We will have some tour dates coming soon, we hope. A couple shows coming up in our own area (warming up for tours) are in O'Fallon, MO at Music Reunion on Sat. April 21 (Record Store Day) at 1pm. It's a free show of course. And on Fri. June 8th we will be in St. Charles, MO at Picasso's from 8-11PM, it fills up fast so get there early if you want to sit down! But that's all on our website, so go check it out, map it out, and plan it out. ------------------------------------------ Also, if you are in or near the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Nashville, TN; Springfiled, MO; Tulsa, OK; Fayetteville, AR; or Chicago, IL; area and know you'll come out to see us play there, drop us a line to our general band email at barleystation@barleystation.net and just say "I'll be there" if nothing else. That way we can get an idea of what size venue we should book in the near future. We'd appreciate that! ----------------------------------------- New Things: We have added all of the lyrics from our album, AFTER ALL, on our website and are slowly putting up interesting (or even not so interesting) notes or facts about each song under the lyrics. We love that kind of stuff and know you do to, so stop by and absorb. http://barleystation.net And a few other ideas are being tossed around for the website, we'll keep you posted. Behind the Scenes: A lot of new songs have been written this year already and we're still on a roll. In the midst of all else that is going on, we are about to start laying down the foundation for the next album and are still selecting those tracks. Only the best we've written, of course. And if you make it out to a live show you will definitely hear some of them! Practices go on as we work Emily into more of the songs on guitar and vocals. Scripting out of our first video is also still in the works and... new band pictures are coming soon! So stay tuned for that as well. ~'Till next time or 'till we see ya! Barley Station's Debut Album Released On Leap Day, Feb. 29th, 2012

http://mi2n.com/press.php3?press_nb=151679 --------- Barleyfields Records Makes Debut With "After All" On Leap Day, FEBRUARY 29th, 2012 --------- SUMMARY: Barley Station Takes a Leap And Makes Debut With Genre Blending and Defying Album "AFTER ALL" on FEBRUARY, 29, 2012 ----------- The St Louis, MO based musical group Barley Station is proud to announce the release of their first album, "After All," under their new label: Barleyfields Records. The album will be available via major digital outlets such as iTunes, Amazon, Verizon, Napster, etc. Physical copies will be made available via CDBaby.com and through CD Baby’s physical distribution partners. The album contains the critcally favored single "I Found You," which the Music Dish Journal described as "Rootsy alternative country at its best: catchy guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and a contagious harmony with simple but cool, happy go lucky lyrics [that] make this a likeable and great track that’s easy on the ears and warming to the heart." ---------------- About Barley Station: ---------------- Barley Station is one of those rare triple-fronted and multiple songwriter-vocalist bands (two male, one female) whose music combines the roots of Americana, Pop/Rock, Country, and Folk and puts them in a blender with a dash of amaretto pouring out a tasty glass of sound. The result is a distinctly alternative blend that draws deeply from its roots yet looks forward to the future. -------------- Reverb Nation artist David Namerow exclaims: "Barley Station cuts cleanly and crisply through the genre clutter with grooves that slice directly to the heart with honest power. Finally, music with teeth, heart and soul!” --------------- I Am Entertaiment Magazine put it this way, “Barley Station's eclectic brand of rock, country and folk music will give fans of those genres something to talk about. Unlike many bands, Barley Station isn't just creating music and calling it alternative, they've really mixed things up on AFTER ALL, making it a truly alternative rock album. ---------------- Barley Station prides itself upon featuring two, three, and occasionally four-part harmonies, driving rhythms, and contagious melodies. The songwriting covers the gamut of emotions moving from upbeat bright material to darker or introspective moods. The sound is punctuated throughout with alternative country, bright pop/rock to progressive folk and alternative pop/rock sensibilities. -------------------

CD Release Date Announcement

Greetings all and Happy New Year! We here at Barley Station toasted in the new year by reviewing our recently completed debut album that I Am Entertainment magazine is calling a “unique” and an “eclectic brand of rock, country and folk music that will give fans of those genres something to talk about.” ----- And goes on to say, “Unlike many bands, Barley Station isn't just creating music and calling it alternative, they've really mixed things up on AFTER ALL, making it a truly alternative rock album.” Not to mention alternative country as well. But for more of that review you can go to: http://www.iaemagazine.com/music/2012/012012/barley-station.html ----- So, we saw 2011 out the door in style and welcomed 2012 in the same way. ----- Studio time was a lot of fun and now we begin rehearsals for the upcoming concert/tour season and we hope to see many, most, and hopefully all of you on our journeys. As well as many journeys in the months and years ahead. WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE IS SET FOR FEBRUARY 14, 2012. ----- Now guys and dolls, that's St. Valentine's Day so buy this album for someone you love. Brian and Casey are also buzzed about the release date because one of their mutual favourite albums, Tomorrow The Green Grass by the Jayhawks was released on that day way back in 1995. ----- And with release comes a set of CD release shows. If you haven’t already heard, we will be having a CD release show (the first of 2 or 3) at Cicero's in St. Louis, Missouri on February 19, a Sunday evening. All who come out to see us will get a free CD. Yes, the CD with ALL the songs. Tickets are available now at: https://tickets.aftonshows.com/BarleyStation . Another CD release show will be planned in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area (Brian Kious’ home state) sometime later. So stay tuned for that if you’re in or near the Lone Star state.

November News Blog

News and Happenings --- We're happy to say that we are still on target to be finished recording our album 'AFTER ALL' by the end of the year, and are now looking at the beginning of the new year (2012) for the "official" release date. You will be the first to know though, of course! A lot of pre-release work goes into putting out an album so a lot more hard work for us is still ahead for the next couple of months. --- We are thinking of holding more than one CD release party and considering a second or third in one or two other states here in the U.S. (Brian's home state of Texas being one big possibility) so we'll keep you posted on that. Though we would love for everyone of you to be there, it is not possible for us to circle the globe just yet, but we're sure we'll get there in time ;) --- In the meantime, just for you, we decided to put a few more sneak peek clips up on our Reverb Nation hosted website. We're going to put two clips up this month and a couple more in December. Those of you who have joined us from Jango Radio may have heard them already, or if you followed the link on our facebook page to Jango, you may have heard the full length First Edition versions. --- 'Abilene' is the title of the first track. As mentioned in the last newsletter it features a time signature that is a bit rare in popular music these days, a 3/4 time waltz (for our fellow musician friends and fans) The song begins with gentle acoustic guitars and builds up to harmony vocals, a smooth slide guitar and enter piano, bottomed up eventually with the upright bass. --- The other clip we are posting is from a song called 'Want It To Be'. 'Want It To Be' is a re- working of a song released under our old band name several years ago and garnered us some very nice national airplay in its previous form. The originial integrity of the song has been kept and we think you'll enjoy the moderate paced serenity of the track, not to mention our signature harmony vocals. As always, we encourage you to hear our music with headphones on to hear all the different sounds layered in the mix. --- By the time this newsletter reaches you, those clips should be up! So go take a listen and... listen again. Naturally, we are still saving the best tracks for last, like a fine wine in reserve. --- A special thanks to all who have supported us in any way big or small and have helped us move into the top 20s in the entire nation in our genre on Reverb Nation. Thank you! --- We look forward to seeing many of you in concert in 2012. --- Ciao! Randall, Brian, and Casey of Barley Station

October Blog

First, we would like to say hello and thank all of our new fans and friends from around the globe. Thank you for your support and for finding us amongst the tens of thousands of other bands and artists vying for your attention. And thanks for deeming us worthy of your listenership. --- While we are anxious to get back onstage, we are determined to finish the album by the end of the year. That is the self-imposed goal and we hope to have it ready for you all by then. --- We know what its like to wait for a band or artist we like to get done with a new album and it seems like forever when only months go by. But we assure you - it will be worth the wait. Progress continues as we record tracks, review them, and sometimes redo them. Recording a great vocal track isn't always about getting it correct note for note as much as capturing the right mood and moment... the right feel that fits a song. After watching things like 'The Beatles Anthology' series and seeing how many takes were done to just get the right magical take on a song, it always gives us comfort to know that it is OK to do 37 takes on a vocal track and pick the right one! It's good to watch the human frailty at work behind the scenes in he studio perfect itself. And it is good to see the humanness of those we admire and who we consider the "greats". --- Now that we have every song selected, most done and some at least partially recorded, we are starting to get an idea of what this record is going to be like. The title has been selected and is going to be “AFTER ALL”. It’s fitting for various reasons but there you have it. The tracks will range from the solemn earthy feel of songs like “True” (recently released as a single) to a bright pop/country cross like in “Close To One”, and more purer pop/country rock feel in I Found You”. All of these songs were merely the tip of the creative iceberg for us. And that’s what it is all about. Creativity. --- Another song which will appear on the album is called “Abilene”. It is a song with a ¾ time waltz beat and has a gentle flowing feel with lush, rich, real (not faked with a machine) harmonies throughout. It makes you feel like you are right there with the singers and the subject of the song. Another one we are working on presently is titled “Dream You Lost”. It is a dynamic piece with a flat-picking guitar style intermingled with a solid rock undertone provided by the bass and drums - but with a touch of folk underlying all - and a vocal that delivers a serious and solemn yet dreamy touch. And overall, with a melodic sense that makes the song take on a character unique unto itself. --- A lot of work has gone into these recordings, and they are very special to us. More than one song was completely re-recorded from scratch just to get the right atmosphere. So we are anxious to be able to make the announcement that it is done. Not yet. But you all will be the first to know! We appreciate the fact that you found us first - the true fans, there from the beginning. --- In our hemisphere of the globe, autumn is setting in, and with it, beautiful weather that makes it the perfect time to record and capture the right moments for this particular group of songs on the album. We hope the weather is good for you wherever you are at. And if it is not, then for those who love this time of year - when the weather is moderate - and the air is fresh - and you can smell the leaves in the air - we hope you’ll soon be able to put in our music and will be taken there in your mind. -- Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to join our mailing list, listen to and download our music, join us on facebook, reverb nation, shared us with friends and neighbors, and any other support you have given us. We hope to see many of you on the road next year. -- Until next time, ~Randy, Brian, and Casey (Barley Station)

End of September News and Updates

September brought some changes for Barley Station as you may know if you follow closely. The departure of Steve Meyers (drums) is a loss, but he remains a good friend and who knows what the future may hold. However, the addition of Randy Belt’s old band mates Brian Kious and Casey Wollberg is a big plus. The three worked together for years and founded the group The Barnacles in early 2001. The three have recorded, toured, written, sang, etc. together for many years and it seems only natural they should re-unite under the banner of Barley Station. The chemistry was always there and just right, even on the bad days. So the hunt is on for a new drummer before the show goes on the road. Recording has been set back a bit but things are moving along well in the studio nevertheless. These guys know how to roll with the punches and have been through the fire and the ringer together both onstage and off. In the meantime the decision has been made to digitally release yet another single, which features Brian on the leading vocal and arranged by Randy and Brian, the groups two front men. Our Facebook, Twitter, and mailing list fans will be the first to know when it is out. The guys are anxious for everyone to hear it and hope to release the songs to fans via the reverb nation website in the next few weeks and officially via our digital distributor around the same time or shortly thereafter. It will also be made available to radio. Speaking of radio, the band and we at team Barley Station would like to give a big THANK YOU to those stations that have played the music of Barley Station in the U.S., UK, Australia, and the Netherlands! The goal is still to be done with the full length studio album before the end of the year despite the setbacks that have occurred. And you know, as always, those of you on the mailing list will get some sneak peeks at songs either almost done or in the works between now and then. For those who live around the hometown or want to drive a bit, there will be some live local or regional appearances here and there to keep the “live chops” up while the band is isolated in the studio for the next few months more. We’ll keep you posted on that as well as another pro photo shoot which is on the way within a week or two so look for some new pictures coming soon. Also, putting the word out, if anyone is interested in joining the street team and/or helping translate the blog and newsletters into other languages, let us know. Currently, Spanish is up first as there are a lot of Spanish speaking fans and friends. Email us here if interested: translate@barleystationmusic.com Until next time, Major "E" - Team Barley Station

Sept. Update: studio, great fans

First, the kewlest thing is we have gained a lot of fans who love a lot of types of music. Some so-called "pros" will try to tell you to just have "one sound" and not veer or blend into different genres, but lets face it, they are losing money. They're still in the stone age of the music industry, and who needs them? For the love of music! Our fans have always been diverse and have diverse tastes. We think it is an insult in general to music fans to make believe they only like one thing. What a boring, dull world that would be! We ourselves are just as comfortable listening to Coldplay one minute and Bob Marley or Johnny Cash the next. Depends on your mood right? In our opinion, we have now entered the Golden Age of the Independent Artist. (tweeted that) So if you hear that phrase anywhere soon, it started here. And here's what we're doing about it. A summary of what we've done so far - in less than three months: Launched our own record label. Recorded in our own studio, studied Music Law independently, Press Kits, etc. We have become the jacks-of-all-trade in essence. We have released 2 singles with another already pre-released chiefly to fans only. Launched promos with what the major labels would call "no budget", climbed the ReverbNation charts in "other" genre and switched to "Americana" when that was created by RN and moved up to #102 in the nation, #1 locally and #114 globally in our genre. Moving forwards, starting this week and next, a national and global radio promo starts for the single 'I Found You', which will be followed up by another single once the first finds a decent spot (and we know it will) on the various charts it will be promoted to. And many more good things to come. And we're still shooting for the full length CD to be done by end of autumn - end of year release at the latest. Ideas for a music video are being turned over as well. And soon, we will be putting together the rest of the pieces for a live act and holding invitation only auditions. Recording continues and things are moving right along at a good pace. There was a minor setback for vocals with Randy getting bronchitis but he worked through and past that and incorporated any inconveniences into productivity and used his sick voice to give some interesting new vocal intonations on some background vocal tracks. And hey it worked out! No lead vocals though, just lots of rest. Well... maybe a little mixing and editing… oh, um… and a guitar track here or there in between delirium episodes (He's hard to stop). Meanwhile, Steve has lain down more drum tracks and knocked out his lead vocal on a really captivating and enchantingly beautiful song called 'Be Mine'. And another Steve penned song that was released with their previous band, the Barnacles, called 'Every Heartbeat' has been re-worked a bit and will be re-released on the upcoming album as well. The Randy penned song 'After All' was finished up this week. Some of you may remember this tune as well, if you were at live shows from the old band, as it was played a lot and a favorite but never recorded properly (but did appear on a bootleg live CD). But it's turned into something quite unexpected and will be quite a pleasant surprise. Barley Station, like its predecessor, The Barnacles, will not be stopped at the genre line as you all know, but crosses over into other areas and always has something interesting to offer. Some other instruments will be appearing as well. Look for perhaps some violin or fiddle parts, upright bass, mandolin, maybe even accordian. Did you know Steve plays trombone and accordian? Don't know how to fit that in but you never know. Maybe some sneak peeks again in the coming weeks for those on our mailing list.. but we dont want to give the plot away. Oh yeah, now we are on twitter @barleystation so follow us there if you have twitter. Until next time, Major "E" - Team Barley Station

Studio update and another single to be released

Sunday was a pleasant recording day for drum tracks. And it was a beautiful day out in the country in the hills of Missouri at Barleyfields Studio 2B. Complete with pool table in our green room and cows across the street - behind barbed wire of course - we don't have a studio stampede now do we? So, we knocked out two more songs, probably the most complicated two of the batch. We worked out some kinks before tracking and got the first song down on the first real take. Thats always a treat to have happen, let me tell ya! The second song had some complexities that took a few takes or so to get it down, but down we got it, to a tee. Can't wait for ya'll to hear the finished product of this album. It won't be too long, but in the meantime, we have another single we are going to release to follow behind "I Found You". Not sure of the release date yet, but it will be very soon. Days perhaps...? Two weeks tops. Still waiting for the final mix on it, but we know it will be soon. Those of you on the mailing list got an email with a link for a sneak peek/listen of the unpolished version of the single so YOU all have an idea what it will be like. Other great things happening behind the scenes. You'll hear soon enough. We still don't have an official 'official' website, but everything you need is right on our Reverb Nation page, which will suffice until the official site is launched later this fall. But www.barleystationmusic.com will always take you where you need to be. Of course there's our facebook site, and just started last week - Barley Station on Twitter. http://twitter.com/#!/barleystation And there you have it. Till next time, Barley Station

Studio update and a tunepack

Long hours in the studio this week working on the full length album. Randy has a new Fender Telecaster guitar that is working its way into the songs, and such a nice warm sound it has too! Had to redo a few guitar tracks with it just 'cause it fits better in the sound. Good times. For those who have signed up for our mailing list, we hope to have a few sneak peeks of some of the tracks we're working on pretty soon (in 2 or 3 weeks maybe). And maybe throw in a couple new pictures from a pro photo shoot we're gonna do on the 25th. An exclusive fan only kinda thing. Hopefully not too hot that day. This 100 degree stuff is no fun. And the humidity. ughh. But hey, at least the sun is shining. So.... if you're not on the mailing list already and you want to get a sneak peek of whats going to be on the full CD don't forget to do that. It really is going to be fabulous. Plus, ReverbNation created this tunepack (see the link) where you can share Barley Station with your friends or whoever might like it. They're a pretty cool invention these tunepack things. :D http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/3383465
