My name is Ray Brown, former keyboardist for major label recording acts Ecstasy, Passion & Pain (Roulette Records) and the Jimmy Castor Bunch (Atlantic Records). I have watched numerous tribute shows which have paid homage to the music hits of the last 50 years and have noticed that they all focused on songs which featured vocal performances. It became evident to me that no one had thought to pay tribute to the great instrumental hits which hit the charts during that time span.
Songs without lyrics have always received step-child treatment compared to songs with lyrics and vocal performances. This does not mean, however, that instrumental music has not had a profound effect on the cultures of the world. I am sure that everyone has hummed or whistled a familiar instrumental hit at some time or other. Who hasn't experienced an adrenalin rush from hearing the music promoting a sports event or felt the drama and suspense created by the music in a scary movie? It is time to give tribute the music of the artists that don't sing such as MFSB, Salsoul Orchestra, Van McCoy, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Ramsey Lewis, Weather Report, Kenny G, The Funk Brothers, The Brecker Brothers and a list of others too long to complete here.
I am in the process of developing a 90-minute presentation of the biggest instrumental hits of the last 40 years (Disco to Present). It features a 10-piece orchestra playing the music while several dancers perform dances choreographed to sync with the soundtrack. A narrator will identify the songs and the artists that recorded them.
The presentation is divided into 3 sections; Dance, Smooth Jazz, and Movies in order to cover all genre. It can be done as one live 90-minute show or can be filmed as 3 30-minute television or documentary segments.
I am currently seeking sponsorship so that the project can be completed and presented with the dignity it deserves. If you find yourself interested and would like more details feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your consideration.
