Isn't it funny how some of the very best, most creative stuff you ever write happens when you're just too young and stupid to know any better? Once you learn a few of the "rules", songwriting isn't really all that complicated, except for the challenge of trying to make it interesting. I have all the tools a songwriter/recording artist could ever need - WAY more than I could have ever imagined when I first struggled and toiled for months upon end on writing my first song 28 years ago. That song sucked INCREDIBLE donkey balls, but the NEXT one... hey, it wasn't half bad! By the time I had written my 3rd song, I was cobbling together a whole bunch of killer riffs that today I would have probably used as the basis for TEN songs.
I think that's where the origins of progressive metal lie. (Or lay. I'm not really quite sure, Ringo...)
I think one of these days, if I can find the time, I am going to record it ALL and just release the whole goddamn collection as a box-set. An anthology of sorts, from some asshole most people have never heard of (Rev. Elvis Lee Morrison is WAY more well-known than I am). It will be called... DRUM ROLL, PLEASE - are you ready?

Steve Boyd is a singer/songwriter and musician, originally from Salt Lake City, now based in Southern California. A veteran of the Milwaukee Metalfest Concert Series, the former Tempered Steel frontman has opened for such notable acts as Testament, DRI, Mayhem, Otep, Flotsam and Jetsam, Holocaust, SOD, Venom, Wildside, Doro Pesch and King Diamond just to name a few. Steve's most recent projects include the all-original band "Shadowlife", with a full-length CD due for release later this year, and the Dream Theater tribute "Train of Thought", endorsed as the official Dream Theater tribute band by no less than Mike Portnoy himself! And, of course, there is plenty more where that came from in the form of a solo project that has been in the works for several years, "cheekily" entitled "The Flatulence Experiment", with the second disk slated to follow called "Flatulence 2: The Asshole Monologues".
