100th County... 100 Years old!

This weekend, Avery County, N.C. will be celebrating it's 100th birthday as the youngest county in North Carolina, being the 100th and last county formed. As part of that celebration, there will be lots of things happening in our county seat (which is the highest in elevation east of the Rocky Mountains) of Newland this coming weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will be lots of things going on all over Newland including music, artists, writers, vendors, food of all kinds, geneologists, games and fun things for the kids and who knows what surprises may be in store. Our band, the "Tru Blu" Bluegrass Band is scheduled to play at the "River Walk" Stage across from Lowes Foods, at 3:55 PM till 4:45 PM on Saturday afternoon. We will also be going over to the Carolina BBQ and we will continue to play music there from 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM on Saturday night. We would love for everyone to join us in this evening of celebration and family oriented fun and festivities. We always have an awesome time pickin' and grinnin' and even get as many on the dance floor as possible! If the good Lord's willin' , Little Bob Aldridge, aka "Happy Feet" will be with us to show off some of his famous fancy foot work for you. If you haven't heard of him by now, "Happy Feet" danced at the Grand old Opry with Minnie Pearl on stage! He is always willing to show you a few pointers if you don't know how to dance! Guess that's about it. Hope to see you all there! Come on out on Friday night at 6PM and hear the "TAMS" known back in the 60s for their hits like "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy," and "What Kind of Fool," and "Hey Girl Don't Bother Me," and "Walkin' Dr. Bill," and "I've Been Hurt." Although the hits were mostly in the 60s, they were named the "Beach Band of the Decade" in 1986, and sang and toured with Jimmy Buffet in the 80s, & 90s. It should be an awesome concert in the park! Come on out and have fun!
