Eugene's Axe / Blog

Ever Wonder Why we call ourselves Eugene's Axe? Wonder no more....

It's from the song "Careful with that Axe, Eugene" by Pink Floyd. From age 19 to 24 Mike Roth's favorite band was Floyd - specifically between 1970 and 1975 - Ummagumma to Animals and I wanted to model a band after that. When my first band died I told this to Chuck - because he was the best. That was the moment he and I went from rock and roll to psychedelic bluesy and became Eugene's Axe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Careful_with_That_Axe,_Eugene bliss

ABOUT THIS SHOW... Eugene’s Axe was formed in the fall of 2005 from the ashes of two successful bands, The Rising Tide and Dead Motor Pose. When The Rising Tide went their separate ways, drummer/singer Michael Roth and guitarist Charlie Nilan set out to start a more progressive sound, with an undercurrent of straight rock and roll. Chris Wilke, bass player for Dead Motor Pose, answered the call to complete Eugene’s Axe’s current lineup. With influences such as Pink Floyd, The Doors, Radiohead and The Mars Volta, Eugene’s Axe has come to the forefront of psychedelic rock and roll in the Boulder/Denver area over the last 6 years. The Highway Ghost EP was cut in 2006 at Immersive Studios (Boulder) and in 2008, the concept album Dead Planet was released in both CD and digital formats. Currently, Eugene’s Axe is working on their third studio effort under the working title “Eugene’s Lament.”
