Temptation

We all know what temptation is and obviously with the time we live in temptation can seem like a thing of the past or not a big deal. But the the simple truth is that the bible deals with temptation and so should we accordingly. We're going to touch real quick on what temptation is and how we can overcome by the blood of the Lamb! Jesus and temptation

Luke 4 1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. 14And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

Why was Jesus tempted? We see here that temptation is generally satan trying to take us off the path God has us on. Jesus was actually led into temptation! This here shows us that temptation is going to happen to us regardless; if Jesus had to go through than so will we.

How was Jesus tempted? Verse 3 shows us that Jesus was tempted by being attacked in areas he was weak. Jesus was hungary so satan offered Jesus a way to get food. With the condition of our flesh we are hopelessly prone to fall in need of the world around us. This leaves so many areas for satan to attack us and bring us down but somebody say BUT GOD!

The things he was able to do after overcoming This is the important thing I want you to take out of this message. Unfortunately we live in a time where falling to temptation is not a big deal, and often times smiled upon. I want to encourage someone today that God wants to do great things through your life and most of these things will only happen if you submit yourself to God and avoid temptation. But how? Well Jesus did it and so can we! In verse 4, 8 and 10 Jesus Christ shows us the way to overcome temptation and he did that by countering the attacks with the word of God. It's a powerful thing when we know WHY we are doing WHAT we're doing. The word of God is compared to a double edge sword and being quick. It cuts any seed of satan from growing in your mind.

We see in verse 14 and 15 how it was that after Jesus Christ OVERCAME satan's attacks he was filled with the Spirit of God and did powerful things and became famous and glorified by everyone around. We need the mind of God to do the things he has called us to do and live the bless life he called us to. We need to combat the doubt and temptations with his word each and every day and stay free to be what he called us to be!
