"Black Widow"

"Black Widow", the new single by Lightnin Rod & The Thunderbolts, will be released on November 17th. I wrote this funky blues tune while living in Florida in early 2011. We had the opportunity to try it out on several Florida audiences and it has been part of the live shows since then. It was recorded with a full brass section that adds spark & shimmer as the song moves along. It will be the first song on th new upcoming album, "Guilty Of The Blues". Look for it on November 17th! Thanks for your support! www.lightnin-rod.com

BLUES NEWS YOU CAN USE!

Greetings to all our friends. We appreciate each and every one of you. We enjoy your correspondence and support. The title of the new CD will be "Guilty Of The Blues'. The mixdown was complete in August. A record label is now listening to it and trying to determine if it will fit in with their roster. If not we will shop it elsewhere and try to have it released by Christmas. We are playing many of the new songs live and the response has been very good. We are in the process of updating our webpage, so please stop by www.lightnin-rod.com to check it out and leave a comment. We would love to hear from you . In August, we performed at the Somerset Serenades and then traveled to LaPorte, Indiana to play for approximately 1200 blues fans at the LaPorte Blues Festival where we opened for the Kinsey Report. Then on September 13th we played for over 1500 people at the Lake Cumberland Blues, BBQ & Arts Festival opening for The Shaun Murphy Band. We just put up a You Tube video of us playing the Willie Dixon classic "Hoochie Coochie Man". Check it out! We will be adding several more videos in the near future. Speaking of videos, Shaun Murphy asked me to sit in for a song with her band and the video will be forthcoming also. We have now been #1 on the ReverbNation Blues Chart for central Kentucky for 28 straight months. If you have not done so already, please stop by our Facebook Page/Lightnin Rod And The Thunderbolts and give us a "Like". Until next time remember............."THE BLUES IS ALRIGHT!" Rod

BLUZ NEWS YOU CAN USE!

Greetings! It has been way too long since we gave you our last update. We apololgize! It has been a very busy spring and summer (the later seems to be going much too fast.) The recording of the CD is almost complete and we start mixdown next week. This is the most comprehensive recording that I have ever been part of with a horn section and even a violin. That being said we need your help to name the title. Here are the three choices: Black Widow; Guilty of The Blues; and Rebel Blues. To vote just leave a message on my webpage or Facebook and then stay tuned for the results. At the end of May it was twenty four straight months that we were #1 on the ReverbNation Blues Chart for Central Kentucky. We will be performing, Saturday, August 9th, at Somerset Serenades at Government Square in Downtown Somerset. On Saturday, August 16th, we are looking forward to playing at the LaPorte Blues Fest in Laporte, Indiana. Then we are back playing on Saturday, September 13th at the Lake Cumberland Blues,, BBQ, & Arts Festival at the new Rocky Hollow in Somerset(opening for Shaun Murphy). If you are close, come on by and say "Hi". We would love to meet you. Until next time, THE BLUES IS ALRIGHT! LIGHTNIN' ROD

BLUES NEWS YOU CAN USE!

Hope you are doing well in this new year. I am not enjoying winter. I can't wait for summertime and the open air festivals. I have lots of new things to report to you. First off, by the end of the month, we will have been #1 on the Reverbnation Blues Chart for Central Kentucky for nineteen straight months. The new CD is coming along and is now about 40% complete. I am hoping for 13-14 tracks to make the final cut. Also stay tuned because you are going to help name it. We are presently booking shows for summer and early fall including performing at Blues Festivals in several states. In August we will be at the LaPorte Blues Festival in northern Indiana. If you would like us to perform in your area then let us know. Also, we will play for private engagements. You can email me for more info. Finally, two new radio stations have joined the list that are playing cuts from "After The Storm". They are WVPE 88.1 FM in South Bend, Indiana and Triple R Blues Radio in the Netherlands. Until next time, stay healthy and remember........."The Blues Is Alright!" Lightnin' Rod "All American Blues That Rock"

September Newsletter

Greetings! Wow, where has the summer gone? It has been a whirlwind here. The recording of the new CD is underway. In June. the rythm tracks for eight new tunes were laid down. I have the great pleasure of working with some incredible musicians from Nashville on this project, Tom Delrossi on drums and Calvin Johson on bass. They both are currently on tour with Shaun Murphy's band. We are plannng a tour together next spring in conjunction with the new album release. Some of the project will also be recorded in Nashville.

Speaking of Nashville, I had a great time for three days at the Summer Namm Show at the new Music City Center. I heard Billy Cox(Jimi Hendrix's bass player), with his current group "Band of Gypsies". I also spoke briefly with Jimi's sister, Janie, who is working hard to keep her brother's legacy alive. I was also a guest to a panel discussion moderated by country superstar, Vince Gill. In addition to that, I had the opportunity to play dozens of new guitars and amplifiers,(Well, someone had to do it!).

In June, I was also the featured artist on Kentuckiana Blues Radio in Louisville. A few other radio stations have picked the last two albums and are playing them in rotation. These include; WBKM--Burlington, UT, WCUW--Worchester, MA and Q97, right here in my new hometown of Somerset, KY.

If you have not done so already, please go to my Facebook band page, Lightnin' Rod & The Thunderbolts and "like" it. It would be greatly appreciated.

We are booking a few dates for the winter, but even more in the spring and summer of next year. If you would like to have us at your event/festival then send me a line and I will get the info to you right away. Thanks for all your support.

Until next time, "The Blues Is Alright!"
