Where does music come from?

It comes from the heart, it comes from the soul... but it just wouldn't come out if it weren't for the help of my friends in music. I can write a whole song on my own at home with my mandolin, but thats not where it ends. Thats just the beginning. The song has got to take the tour of my buddies to find its niche. What it sounds like at recording time is where I've journeyed it to. Then, in recording-land, there are so many more destinations. Frankly, with all these possibilities in the music landscape, its rare that a song ends up being about the same thing in the end. And its great. I'm glad folks are enjoying the tunes. The joys for me are the expression of it all, then the travels they take. Lots of surprises. Lots of gifts.

How many love songs are out there? Since this seems to be the day for them, I predict a total blowout. There's no way the airwaves can even scratch the surface of the available material. I looked up "love songs" on the web, and there before me appeared a picture of Britney Spears and a listing for Celine Dion. Epic, I know. I didn't start writing love songs for a long time. I tackled world issues first, then relvelations, a few other random topics, and finally a few love songs emerged. I guess I had to fall in love. The kind of love that gives me the peace of mind to write about it. I wonder how all those "greatest love songs of all" were written. What were their stories? Hmmm. ♥

New Beginnings.

Years ago, an old boyfriend gave me a pair of earring that said "New Beginnings" on the back of each. Sadly, it was a last try, as we broke up very shortly after that. Then I realized that it was a new beginning after all. That was a long time ago. This is another start to something. A brand-new one. I've been making music with friends for years - all for fun. No deadlines, no pressure, no issues. It's lovely to begin posting some of these. They're special to me, but their not really meant for me to keep them to myself. Please enjoy. Please come back often.
