Drifters On Nitrous / Blog

4/28/11 - The Yampolsky Era part 2....

We've had a new change in our roster - virtuoso drummer/percussionist Matthew Yampolsky. You may know him from Get Off The Floor Einstein fame.... here's a little back log info, before we rewrite it into our bio!!!

In mid-2006, after Get Off The Floor Einstein had been playing shows up and down the coast, there was a short period of time when guitarist Brett Decosimo was not in GOTFE and Tristan Harvey (co-founder/guitarist of Drifters On Nitrous) was the interim guitar player (bassist Evan Walker and Matthew Yampolsky had been in GOTFE since it's inception) and the three discussed changing the name of the band to "Drifters On Nitrous" but ultimately decided to stick with the GOTFE name/franchise. This was the actual beginning of what would be known as Drifters On Nitrous. Stay with me here, folks...

The three spent hours upon hours, five days a week, for 3 or 4 months, writing and playing shows before that incarnation of GOTFE ended and Tristan was replaced to play in the space rock/jam band Superdriver. Evan would later leave GOTFE and officially co-found Drifters On Nitrous with Tristan in early 2007. Some of these songs, such as CCCP, are still played to this day!

So now, 4 years and several drummers later, with the return of Matthew Yampolsky to the fold, Drifters On Nitrous are tighter than ever, laying out substantial grooves, nice and proper, like they never skipped a beat. The sound is almost the exact vision the group had from the beginning, since the drummer who helped forge their sound is back full time behind the kit.

Sound good? Wait til you hear it! It'll knock your socks off, sucka...

2/8/11 - A Day Like Yesterday

Just started with some copyrighting and trademarks today. Long time overdue.... but our Don2o Productions, LLC is almost ready!! It'll just be myself and Tristan owning half each. That way, we can be sure our success is financially managed. We both hate money, btw, but it's a necessary evil. Open mic at Rock Star Lounge in Jensen Beach is such a hit that other places are starting to ask us for the same. We just want to keep the ball rolling so we can continue to play music for everybody. Other than that, not a whole lot has been going on...

May be seeing a new old face behind the drum set for a few shows coming up... more info on that soon. I know, teasers suck!!!

The Tristan Harvey Project has had some good reviews, possibly doing a two-man group with just him and myself sometime soon around town. We're starting to realize our potential on other instruments, so it's definitely getting more and more interesting. All of these projects will be added to our label/production company when the time seems right and everything is set.

Lotsa love, guys

A special thank you from Evan

....and so ends the first month of 2011 for the Drifters... I have to say that at the beginning of 2010, things seemed grim for the three of us (actually, Matt had officially left the band and we had nobody to replace him) and so things deteriorated so far down to the bone that it became brittle as shit and we opted to disband. That was around this time last year...

Fast forward a few months and some incredible friends ask us to put away our differences and play a HUMONGOUS birthday party for a close personal friend with the legendary Ben Prestage. (We should all be so lucky to have a party like that!!!) Of course, it took some convincing to try and get us together for practices, but finally before the show we found out Matt wasn't going to be able to do it. So we asked Austin, a longtime friend and fan of our group since way before even Matt had taken over drumming duties and recorded the cd with us in the middle of 2009. You can see a video for "Free Grizzly" from that very show here

So we decided to keep moving and progressing with Austin in the drummer seat and here we are in 2011, finally getting the sound and places we wanted to be. I thank the great appendages in the sky for friends like Austin, Schmitty, Smitty, Kelsey, and everyone else that has stood behind us since the beginning and kept us going. If it wasn't for you, there would be no Drifters... Thank you all and we love you so dearly.
