New band venture.

As well as my continued solo gigs, performances with my trio, Nothing to Lose, and full on writing and recording projects, I am now also playing with local covers band, Four into One. This time I have taken up the role of bass player and am enjoying the back seat. No vocals no organisation no worries just play and have fun.

Unplugged Rotorua.

I played at the unplugged Rotorua meet last night and boy what a blast that was. The feature artist was Brian Holden playing his collection of Shadows music, ably backed by an impromptu set up of muso's. If you get a chance to catch one of these events when you are in Rotorua dont miss it as the variety of performances is staggering. Thanks to Kiwi Packer, a great place to stay if you are visiting btw, for supplying the venue. Check out the facebook page for me details on this monthly event http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/groups/285071464923838/303304056433912/?notif_t=group_activity

The Dempsters

Had the good fortune to meet Kathy and Wallace Dempster the other day. Thay are a Scotish couple now living in Tauranga, New Zealand and play Scotish Folk music. The incorporate a large variety of instruments, many of the unusual, or at least unsuasual to me. Kathy has a superb singing voice. She just seemed to open her mouth and magical sounds starting flowing out. Wallace played lovely touches on his various instruments and at times augmented by Kathy on a set of artificial bag pipes. It was an imprompture afternoon, where we just sat around and swapped a few tunes over a glass or two of chardonay.

They have played the military tatoo at some stage in the past and have been performing for decades and it shows int he competent and easy playing style. They released a cd 'The Deempsters', which is apparently a Scotish spelling of their name, back in 1996. If you ever come across a copy of this give it a listen, its has some beautifully crafted traditional tracks on it.
