3 Basic Rules of Songwriting

When I first applied for my Songwriter's license, I had to learn the three basic rules of songwriting. I took a correspondence course, but I'm going to share the info with you now for free. First: All of your songs don't have to be autobiographical. That saves you and your listeners from a lot of unnecessary rehashing of old angst, trying to wring a few last lyrics out of all those old emotional scars, both real and imaginary, not to mention self-inflicted. Second: You have to write a Train Song. Goes without saying really. Third: This last one is necessary if you want to get the black belt of songwriting - you have to write a Christmas song. I'm posting mine here on R'verb Nation, if I can master the technology. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays (only if that's what you would wish for yourself) Mick
