Catching up

So, I've been playing bunches of open mics and had the fantastic pleasure of sitting in with Mike Veal and Barry Thrasher a few Thursdays over at Napoleon's on LaVista Road. Played this week at Andrews Upstairs with Paul Sanner and Thursday night, a real treat jamming with Donna Hopkins! Tonite, I'm back with my band, the nonessentials, at Tin Roof. Over the past few weeks, I've been playing at the Monday Night Acoustic Guitar Shootout at Tin Roof, hosted impecably by Ian Schumaker. This thing just took off. Don't miss it! Every Monday night.

Of course, trying to burn the candle at both ends is proving a bit challenging, but if not now... when!!:)

Fantastic Night at Tin Roof!

Wow! thanks to everyone who made it out to Tin Roof! We packed the house and got down with some old time blues! Love to see you at the next show!

back home at northlake idol!

Had a fantastic time last night at the Twisted Taco - now Northlake Idol. I didn't realize the name had acutally changed. Played with Tom on keyboardsw for a tune, Andy and John joining for Folsum Prison and Mojo. And the treat of the night? Now I can someday say, "Yea, I played on stage with the MIghty V!" We'll practice up a few for next time. Thanks Big John and crew as always. It's so great to come back home:)

Just played a great blues jam at JV's in Falls Church

Had a great time playing for the first time at JVs in Falls Church, VA. Great venue and crowd and GREAT players. Definitely heading back!!

Tiffany's Tavern Alexandria Virgina

Had a great time playing Thursday night at Tiffany's Tavern on King Street in Alexandria, VA. Wild to think that George Washington probably tossed a couple back right there! The playing was great fun and I'll be back there, but what might have been just as cool was leaving at midnight, walking down King Street, guitar in hand and all those little white lights in the trees along the street. Wow! What a sight!

Playing live is easy. Recording is really hard

Played at the Red Sky Cafe last night with some great friends including the wonderful Vannessa Deliz and Wyld Cheri. Luke Story kicked things off nicely and there was just a lot of great talent to enjoy. I sat in on Tore Down with new friend Russ.

Playing live is such great fun. Recording is such hard work. When you play live, you get immediate and essentially always positive feedback. Recording is lonely, exacting and the only feedback is your rewind telling you how much you still have to learn! The pleasure of recording is when the product is done and you can either forget about it or on rare occasions, enjoy it over and over:)

Peace and Happy 2011!!

Music is Easy and A lot of Times it's just plain fun

Had a fantastic time at the Twisted Taco last night. This is a hidden gem of great local artists! Had a banjo, guitar duet which was great and Stan and Jim playing some great blues and of course Wyld Cherri and Luke doing some just plain ole pretty stuff. I also loved my girl, the V, Vanessa DeLiz, but last night although fantastic as always, there was something really extra special about her performance because she was exhausted from a long road trip. Good teams win when they are good. Great teams win when they are bad. V did an beautiful job last night even though she was clearly worn down to a frazzle. It's too bad more people aren't taking advantage of this wonderful venue to watch artists yound and uh... not so young, cut their chops and get better and better!

Even music is not so easy with bad equipment!

So, off to Twisted Taco last night, which was really great, but... I started off with my acoustic guitar and it's at a time great, but now worn out Dean Markely pickup. It didn't do very well, so I had to run home, grab the trusty Ibenez hollow body - the Blonde Bomber - and return. I tried some new material which is a) always tough and b) absolutley necessary to do in front of a live audience to claim it as a tune you can do. I also did It's a New Day for Vanessa to demonstrate the alternate tuning stuff. She really likes to work her guitar and alternate tunings would be great for her. So overall, just another day at the office of open mics, meaning it's fantastic fun, you get to see some great musicians and meet a lot of nice people. That's a good day at the office:)

Even Music is not so easy with a bad cold

It's been a tough week as I have been waylaid by a bad cold. I am almost recovered and will be back in business by tomorrow. I created an Electronic Press Kit, one more step I guess. I think my next task will be to build up the visits and fan list on my Reverbnation page. Hoping to be back in the music business this weekend!

Music is easy - Staying up late is not so hard when the music is great

Played two shows tonite in Tucker, along with some other great musicians, including my nephew on mandoline. It's late and it's hard to wind down after the fun times. I'm getting better at performing/entertaining which is way cool. I'm meeting a lot of people that are really good, but it's a nice community of sharing. I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can take it, but the songwriting thing is interesting. My songs are ok, even good in some cases, but there are some great songwriters out there. Oh well, everyone has their own story, I suppose.
