Born multi-cultural, raised in Philadelphia and South Jersey, soUNdz AK (Allen Kai) descibes his music as "Universal Literature With Cultural Spices Anchored By Eclectic Sounds". With a passion for writing and all kinds of music, after college he married an actress and moved to Hollywood. There he delivered, wrote and shopped screenplays among entertainment clientele until he auditioned to be a part of a mobile entertainment unit as a spoken word artist. he was one of 14 out of 40 chosen, became part of the final 8 and went on to write skits that spoofed the scenes of movies for actors aboard the unit. Post divorce, it was a performance at a popular nightclub, and chance encounter in Atlanta, GA that afforded him the opportunity to write music videos for a company of 4 multi-talented sisters that sing, write, act and produce. Influenced by this, he put his own poetry to song and got some club and radio airtime in ATL, and was featured in publications. Then soUNdz AK met Musician George Calhoon and his Pro-Tools to produce gems. As far as writing, he writes it all: Scripts of all types, jingles, poetry etc. It's his love. It amazes me as to how many people of our "free society," who have all power to question and change things, walk as clones and plunge to the depths of nihilism because they want to believe.
People want to believe and accept that the governing society making the laws know what they are doing. What's not realized is that most times the things done are TO US by the selfish, rather than being things done FOR US.
Music transcends.
People want to believe that TV reflects the society in which we live. They don't realize that the screen is a commercial and entertainment medium that, in most instances, is used to brainwash the masses who want and need. For instance, the power of television was discovered during the Kennedy campaign, and proceeded to change the course of election history. Additionally, since it was discovered that people desire what is placed just outside of their reach, the birth of such "Hollywood-type antics" began. It is the people who have the power to make celebrities famous or executives rich, not executives or the celebrities themselves have this power.
Music transcends.
People want to believe that Las Vegas or Atlantic City are where you go to play and get rich. What's more realistic is that hundreds of thousands of people donate their hard earned money so that one or two people, so to speak, can get millions.

People want to believe James Earl Ray and Lee Harvey Oswold were sole operators in the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr and JFK respectively, and that there were no conspiracies surrounding the murders of that crazy error led by The Hoover Administration (Movie coming soon).

It's weird that people rather choose not to believe a man laying on his death bed attempting to make a contribution on the side of righteousness before he passes (JER).

Perhaps this as fallout for that which is aforementioned above, or because there are strong limitations to the imagination of the masses.

It occurs to me that wanting to believe in such things that are obvious and to the contrary, keeps things simple and plain. Matters of the mind that require sensible, rational thinking and acting beyond the sheep-like complacency seem to turn people off and render such things as comlicated or inconceivable. Maybe believing in the simplicity is done out of fear of the repercussions fo opening Pandora's Box or destroying hope in people's reality and dreams. I don't know. Many venues hold "open mic" nights where a host will allow anyone to sign up and give a performance. Since its inception, the spoken word has been an outlet for people to release their views outside the academic and institutional domains of the university and academic or small press. The spoken word and its most popular offshoot, slam poetry, evolved into the present day soap-box for people, especially younger ones, to express their views, emotions, life experiences or information to audiences. The views of spoken word artists encompass frank commentary on religion, politics, sex and gender, often taboo subjects in the world of contemporary academic poetry. When talking about emotion, it depends. A spoken word piece can be powerful with the right emotion behind it but, at the same time, a lack of emotion can set a poem apart. It all depends on the topic. Life experiences are best, especially when the person has actually lived through the experience. The main difference is that spoken word is not recognized because it is not published. Many artists and poets have not published any of their works in book forms. Some use video and audio recording, the means used exclusivley by Hedwig Gorski, who rejected what she called the "dull-drums" of book publishing in the 1980s.[3] Spalding Gray's film "Swimming to Cambodia" is one of the best-known exhibits of spoken word. It has a style similar to many theater monologue presentations on the stage as he sits at a desk and talks about his experiences in Francis Ford Coppola's film of "Apocalypse Now" [4] Nevertheless, spoken word today is part of the oral culture movement spreading literary expression that includes all minorities and women, unlike the domination by the white male community as was case with the Beats in the 1960s.
