Maria is a crossover, experimental and classical violoncellist. Seattle is now her home. A full time musician, Maria shares her love of performing and recording music with her kick-ass talented friends (Alex Guy, Jherek Bischoff, Jason Webley, Paul Kikuchi, Paris Hurley, Eyvind Kang, Caroline Kapp, Ahamefule Oluo, Evan Flory-Barnes, Michael Owcharuk), and teaches private/group lessons at Lakeside Schools and cellists of all ages in her West Seattle private studio.

Maria's cello sounds can be heard on the albums of John Zorn/Eyvind Kang, The Head and the Heart, Amanda Palmer, Recess Monkey, Fightstar, Spekulation, Katrina Parker, The Angel Band Project, Led to Sea, B’shnorkestra, Scrape, The Jane Austen Argument, Michael Owcharuk, ÄÄNIPÄÄ, and Golden Hornet Project.

While living in Hollywood, Maria performed with Cat Power, Jody Watley and Seth MacFarlane, toured internationally with String Theory and nationally with Florence Henderson's show "All the Lives of Me."

“But “10,000 Weight In Gold” is the masterpiece presentation of the The Head And The Heart’s four basic food groups: guitar riffs, Chris Zasche’s bass groove, bright piano melody, and blended strings (Charity Rose Thielen’s violin, Maria Scherer Wilson’s cello, and Eyvind Kang’s viola and violin are magnificent wherever they appear) punctuated by drums that performance-enhance all of the above.”
Cedric Muhammad - Album Review - "Let's Be Still" By The Head And The Heart

“Besides being a hugely talented player with a beautiful tone, she has all the required skills to jump into a recording session without so much as a passing glance at the music.”
Robert Toteras - Composer, Film-Noise

"The addition of her and her cello glued our sound together."
Beth Thornley - Singer/Songwriter

"Her beautiful playing, warm sound and gracious demeanor are just a few of her countless qualities."
Julia Cunningham - Harpist

"I have had the pleasure of working with Maria Scherer for a number of years. She is a remarkable talent and brilliant cellist."
Florence Henderson - Broadway Singer, Mrs. Brady, Hypnotherapist
