Oscar Carralero & Banda Serenata / Bio

Oscar Carralero, Holguin, Cuba…Year 1986, guitar in hand I started the journey through to what is Banda Serenata today. I needed a band to put my own music forward so I created Nueva Era, my first band, where besides my own tunes I also did covers of songs from the Cuban movement called 'Nueva Trova'(Silvio Rodriguez,Pablo Milanes their best known founders). Then I moved to Havana and resumed my project with Solarena and then Serenata Habanera, which gave way to Serenata when I came and settled in Sydney, Australia in 2006.

Oscar Carralero & Banda Serenata is the combination of traditional and modern elements put together through diverse tropical/Cuban styles as well as using instruments believed to be born in Cuba as part of the assimilation of African culture. Tres guitar, congas and more are used to produce music from simple tunes to more elaborated rythms, all in a mixed repertoire of original songs and well known covers.

The band currently have shows in some of the top places for Latin music in Sydney like The Cuban Place and El Bulli Spanish Bar Restaurant.
