Great Moments in Vinyl presents... Janis Joplin's "Cheap Thrills" & "Pearl" Wed, Sep 16, 2015 - 8pm - $10 Great Moments in Vinyl presents...Janis Joplin's "Cheap Thrills" & "Pearl" Great Moments in Vinyl takes the tribute experience to a new level. Every concert, we choose a pair of memorable albums and perform them in their entirety. And along with the music, we supply a series of stories about the songs and the artists and the times that brought them into being. What was the song that saved U2's career? Who was Bruce Springsteen's "Rosalita"? If The Police started out as a punk band, where did all the reggae flavors come from? Why did Elton John wear glasses really? These are the sorts of questions you'll find out the answers to when Great Moments in Vinyl takes the stage. And you'll hear some exceptionally well played music as well.

In December 2013 they released their 'Roughest Cuts' EP, with a subsequent single EP for 'Good, Giving, Game' released in July. They've had a multipage interview in the massively popular Gothic Beauty Magazine and been described by To Eleven as "a sort of Joy Division/Jesus and Mary Chain/Q Lazzarus sound, but it doesn’t sound as if Beauty Queen Autopsy are trying to sound like any of them. Rather, it sounds authentic."Null Device is celebrating 20 years of their eclectic brand of synthpop this year and just released the follow-up EP 'Aphelion' to their critically acclaimed 2013 release 'Perihelion'. Described by Arts Extract as "the kind of band that seems to exist in its own little universe and thrive there, humbly exploring its love of meticulous electronic production and vocal-driven pop songwriting and putting out a really cool release every couple years." Expect big things from Eric Oehler and Jill Sheridan live.Mahr's dark ambient, experimental drone has been perking up the ears of old school industrial and witch house fans for the last couple years. This will be the owner of the Pale Noir label's first show, and we couldn't be more excited to hear what she does.Doors at 8PM (EARLY DOOR TIME!)$7 at the door. $5 with TESLACON LAMINATE.

“...But when Null Device draws from Depeche Mode on Suspending Belief—particularly on album highlight “Notes From The Fallen”—it sounds like a B-side that never was from Mode’s 2005 effort Playing The Angel. The tastefully reverberated vocal melodies of multi-instrumentalist Eric Oehler rise and fall over a pulse of word-tinged rhythms and synths that soar and bounce behind a thin layer of what sounds like sitar...the warped, shuffling synth hooks of “Blow My Mind,” the punchy, string-laden “Inkblots,” and the entrancing sequencing and Bertrand Russell-alluding lyrics of “Teapots Orbiting” round out Suspending Belief quite nicely, offering a refreshing perspective on a genre that’s overshadowed by dance-party kitsch.”
