Neil Taylor / Press

“...Pupils were highly appreciative of the opportunity and all had lots to say about what a great experience meeting Neil had been. Just a few comments from the Year 12 pupils were: 'It was a treat to see Neil Taylor perform at Stonar! He is a total guitar legend and he also said some very inspirational things during our question time. I totally enjoyed it.’ Taryn Hillman 'I thought Neil Taylor’s performance was amazing and it was really inspiring to see that he didn’t need all the best qualifications to be where he was today – you just have to go out and do what you do!' Hannah Hudson 'Neil Taylor's performance was an outstanding opportunity for us. His witty humour and exceptional musical talent wowed everyone in his presence – amazing!' Sophie Drew”

“....It's his knack for working closely with artists to come up with hit-making hooks and riffs that has kept him employed at the top of the music industry. As well as being Robbie Williams' regular sideman in the studio and on tour, Neil Taylor has also played sessions with artists such as Tina Turner, Morrissey and eighties pop giants Tears For Fears. It was Tears For Fears who got Neil's session career started after their 1983 debut album The Hurting broke into the charts and the band realised they needed a guitarist to join them on stage, Neil recalls. "I bumped into Curt Smith at a party and he said, Oh God, we've been trying to find you. I said, Really? Why? He said, Well we're doing a tour and we want you to play guitar for us. So, we did a small English tour and then I was asked to join them in the studio to work on Songs From The Big Chair."”

“......You’ve recorded and toured with many amazing artists – including one of my idols Tina Turner. Reflecting upon all this, would you tell us about some of your experiences working with these artists? Neil: Funny you should mention Tina Turner…I was so nervous about it, but she made me feel at ease straight away. It was for the song “Steamy Windows” – she had this guitar part in her head and was humming it in my ear. When I got the part, she started dancing around and cheering! Most artists have been a pleasure to work with apart from Van Morrison!....”

“...Neil Taylor lives in the same town as me, and is a fervent musician and songwriter. He’s been performing for quite some time, and may I mention, besides some of the greats: Tina Turner, Robbie Williams and currently Chris De Burke; Neil’s profession is wholly ‘rock’n Roll’. My parents told me the time and place for one of Neil’s small town gigs, 9:30, the Castle Pub, don’t be late. I didn’t really know what to expect, I mean, I’d always known who Neil Taylor was, (everyone does in our small town), but I’d never actually seen him perform live. When I did, it was certainly not ‘dad at disco’. Instead, centre front, tequila in one hand, Neil performed for a good hour, songs he’s played on stages, everywhere, all round the world. As his performance gained momentum so did the audience, and before long, it was a collaborative effort, with Neil’s tongue in cheek, mocking his audience to the thrilled laughter from the throngs. It was a very personal performance fr”

“INTERVIEW WITH NEIL TAYLOR Rockvideos.at got to meet Neil Taylor for an exclusive interview and Jam Session at the Pentahotel in Vienna for a chat about guitars, his music, teachers and how acoustic guitars can be used as boats, Enjoy! Hello Mr. Taylor! Welcome to the rockvideos.at Interview, great to have you with us, let’s get straight to it. What is your favorite guitar model and why? Neil: Favorite guitar model? I think it has to be Fender Stratocaster because…and actually Fender Telecaster because I grew up loving Status Quo. Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt had those so I always wanted one and now I’ve got one of course. (smiles) Could you tell us about your latest guitar models? Neil: Yeah, I’ve just became Taylor endorsing. Acoustic guitar producer, which is great. One of the best guitars, acoustic guitars, around. Because I’m doing alot of solo shows. So it’s great to have a really good acoustic guitar and its got a lovely big sound when you plug it into the PA. ”
