Nearly Flightless / Press

“In March 2012, four guys started a band called Nearly Flightless in Manhattan. The band members include Rock Creek junior Jackson Meyer, plus Homeschooled junior Austin Cranston and MHS seniors Adam Hagedorn and Sam Rozell. Nearly Flightless performs at different places in town, such as house parties and in Aggieville. Senior Josh Roberts said, “[They are] really good for how young they are. Very talented.” For many people, getting on stage and performing would make them nervous, but for Meyer, the nerves have gone away. “I did [get nervous] at first, but the longer we play together, and the better we get, it’s just exciting,” Meyer said. The band not only plays live, but they also have recorded music recently at NueWave Recording in Manhattan. “[We] just finished recording our first single, ‘Tell Me What I Want to Hear’ [which took about] four weeks [to record],” Meyer said. ”

"Nearly Flightless is ready to serenade their audience with some down and dirty rock and an occasional love song or two. The five-part harmonies for their newest song are created by Jackson Meyer on lead vocals, piano, and guitar, Claib Harris on backup vocals and guitar, [Sam Rozell on lead guitar,] Adam Hagedorn on drums and Austin Cranston on bass. The band is made up of all high schoolers who aren’t strangers to Aggiefest or music in general. Bands like Mutemath, Band Of Horses, and Mayday Parade inspire the group. The band will be selling glow in the dark wristbands, stickers, and possibly some guitar picks as well. "

"New to the studio, but not the music scene in Manhattan, is Nearly Flightless. Nearly Flightless is comprised of four members: Austin- Bass, Adam- Drums, Sam- Lead Guitar, and Jackson- Lead and Vocals. Ages in the band range from 16-18, and these guys have some great chemistry and talent for their age. I first saw NF at a show during Aggiefest, put on by the Manhattan Music Coalition and Sisters Of Sound Records this past summer, and I was honestly blown away by their performance. As was the rest of the crowd that held around 100 people. I could tell they were young, and didn't know if they had and music recorded. I really wanted to record with these guys, but I had to leave when their set was over so we never spoke. ...."

"One hopeful is an old favorite, Conquering Your Gravity. If they make it in, the Variety Show will be the band’s first public performance since former front man Ty Mares moved away. The guys will come out to make their first show back as successful as their previous shows. Although the lead singer has changed, Conquering Your Gravity has maintained the sound that earned them their popularity to begin with. “It’s all about the music for us,” junior bass player Claib Harris said."
