“'Moriba Marcano is the kind of artiste who keeps you guessing whether he’s a musician or not...' 'Once he’s on stage, though, Marcano’s slow songs and broken voice recall Bryan Adams’ late 80s-early 90s repertoire style...' 'Moriba Marcano also called “Mr Marcano,” is clearly an UMO (Unidentified Musical Object)...' 'The first impression was then confirmed: he is said to be “a citizen of the universe” and a ...one- man musical army”. Already awkward apart, the two ideas blended together yet resulted in defining Moriba Marcano...' 'The son of calypso elder Brother Superior (Andrew Marcano), it comes as no surprise that Marcano is musically competent and quite adept at accompanying himself on guitar...' 'Moriba Marcano’s music might not be everybody’s cup of tea but it has integrity and comes as a breath of fresh air...' ©2005-2006 Trinidad Publishing Company Limited ”

Q: I've been primarily a singer/songwriter, but have an interest in expanding my expertise in areas such as producing and managing. What advice could you give that would allow me to explore these options

A: Interesting question. As far as music/audio production goes, one of the first things you'll want to do is get yourself a DAW and learn how to use it. When getting into anything new, first of all do research. Google, Bing or whatever noteworthy search engine you use is your best friend. Both music production and talent management are highly complex endeavors. For the production side of things one needs to understand music theory, arrangement, voicing, acoustics etc and that's just for the sound/sonic element. Then there is the more practical side, arranging your sessions, getting the right people to collaborate with as far as other musicians, sound engineers etc. goes. Management is one of the single most important elements as far as being a commercially viable artist goes. When done properly it's very detail oriented, in the old model the artist could not exist without management. The manager used to control just about every aspect of the artist's life so that they could be free to create and be creative. From signing cheques, to deciding to go on tour with. That said, if you're serious about your own career or about managing/producing someone else. It wouldn't hurt to take a course or two at a reputable institution, Berklee or MIT if you can afford it. Nowadays you can get all the info online for free, but the connections you'll make will be invaluable. Hope that helps...M
