After a chance encounter with an opportunity to take part in a jazz scholarship at Univ. of Colorado-Denver, her professional career began to blossom. For the past 12 years Hollowell has brought an edge, dynamism and beautiful charisma to the Denver music scene. Danette is incredible as the front woman of a band but it’s her solo vocals and creative stamina that has carried her though the years and changes in the music industry. Like many great musicians and songwriters, the creative process for Danette begins long before the studio. She uses experiences and her unique perspective to weave stories with classic sentiment and symbolic concepts. More than a jazz singer, she is the total package. She’s beautiful, mysterious and prefers to be barefoot because heels hurt her feet and she struggles to dance in them. Whether covers or originals, there’s nothing this phenom can’t do, and even if there was, you’d love to see her try. As a UCD trained jazz vocalist, she specializes in big band, swing 'n Dixie, straight ahead jazz & a little blues from 1890's 'til the reawakening of jazz in the 50s. Influences include Duke Ellington, Anita Baker, Billie Holiday, and Nina Simone. She also performs covers of contemporary music anywhere from Jimi Hendrix to Sade, Outkast, Amy Winehouse, Laryn Hill, Adele, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Chaka, Badu, Bilal and writes and performs her own music, which is mostly soul with a lil jazzy-pop thrown in. MZIvey aka Melissa Ivey - 2005/2006 Denver Westword Award Best Singer/Songwriter Melissa Ivey, now going by the moniker "MZIvey", is no stranger to the blues/rock scene. As a young artist she taught herself to play bass and guitar before she entered high school. She toured as a front-woman of a teenage punk band shortly after, and eventually established herself as one of Denver’s leading songwriters and performers by constantly working, honing, refining and loving her craft. Melissa has three studio albums out, the latest "SPEED OF LIFE", is reminiscent of Janis Joplin and pop rock icons Joan Jett and Pat Benetar, Melissa takes you on a musical journey through blues, rock, punk, folk with her AWARD-WINNING singer-songwriter style. Andrew Nicolai - Chops Records LLC Andrew Nicolai is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Denver Colorado. Playing across the country bringing his soulful vocals and beautiful guitar rhythms, he is definitely someone to watch out for in this budding Denver scene. You can find him playing in multiple groups throughout town like Turner Jackson's Red Plastic Cup or with rapper Rob4Real or solo at multiple bars and venues in the Mile High. His influences range from 20's blues, 60's folk, 90's neo soul, and today's rock and hip hop.
