If I were an orchestral composer, I would want to sound just like this. I really admire your music.

Bio: I started writing music when I was a cathedral choir boy at Oxford. Of course, initially I was inspired by modern organ music and choral writing. In my teens though, I began to have a more inquisitive interest in the music that was written for films and television.

Q: Hey Mark, I was just wondering what the process of scoring is for you personally? Do you play about on the piano for melodies and then find the right chords? Also, do you then score out ideas after?

A: I tend to think up ideas away from the keyboard and sketch them out on manuscript. For piece structure, I might use a graphical representation to map my ideas quickly. Then yes, I refine things at the piano, elaborate harmony and may find new ideas come out of the improvisational process. But I will also improvise on the keyboard directly to picture. I like to mix things up. I'll even get my cello out to experiment.
