A self-taught musician, Marcello began his musical activity at age 11, playing drums in some local rock bands and participating in some important rock festivals in Sardinia. At the end of the 80's, he began the study of tenor saxophone, working mainly with pop music bands. It is in the year 1990, after he met pianist Luca Mannutza, that he began more specifically the study of jazz improvisation. He played with some important local jazz musicians like Luca Mannutza, Billy Sechi, Piero Di Rienzo among others, including sessions with American trumpet player Andy Gravish. During the next years, he started playing soprano sax and participated as free lance in different bands for several local jazz festivals. Between 1996 and 1998, he set up a band with trumpet player Mario Massa, called "Ragatronic", which received an interesting attention both from the critic and the audience as he participated in several Sardinian festivals. In 1998, he worked with pianist/composer Silvia Corda and her quintet, which included playing with them a Charles Mingus Tribute with Tino Tracanna as guest star. He started a new collaboration in 1998 with an ethnic music project called "Marenostrum" led by singer Mario Brai. In 2000, he added alto sax on his set up, working in different musical fields from jazz to pop to ethnic to funk. In the same year, he collaborated with American trumpet player Mack Johnson (James Brown) and with Californian star singer Renee La Mour. In the next years he made quite a number of collaborations but the one with American percussionist Karl Potter is worth remembering. He recently worked on writing original music for his own jazz quartet/trio and likewise started a new collaboration in 2009 with Sardinian free jazz orchestra, the "Rural Electrification Orchestra" as alto and soprano player of the band. He then participated as tenor and soprano sax player in Gianfranco Fedele's Quintet with whom he recorded his debut CD which will be released in 2011. Among his most recent projects is a solo sax performance with loop station and electronics, while performing total improvised music sessions on the side with the great classical double bass player Sandro Mosino and other musicians.
Recently He recorded with the Rural Electrification Orchestra their second cd "The Sleepwalker".
In 2012 played some concerts with the italian bass virtuoso Pippo Matino with the jazz fusion band Pork Explosion, and also with this band played for 2012 Euro Jazz Expo in cagliari with trumpet player Flavio Boltro and bassist Dario Deidda as guest stars.
