Making Movies / Press

“Kansas City’s own Making Movies is quickly becoming the band to pioneer Latino Rock in middle America.”

“[A La Deriva’s] 11 new songs that are tough to classify into one genre, which those in the know say makes them that much more appetizing”

“I feel fully confident saying that the band synthesizes what’s happening in … Latin music better than anyone else out there today.”

“Kansas City’s own Making Movies is quickly becoming the band to pioneer Latino Rock in middle America.”

American Latino TV

“Making Movies (and its producer, Steve Berlin of Los Lobos) shows us how deeply thought-out lyrics sound next to a rhythm track that somehow both propels and floats without violating the laws of physics”

“Making Movies and Berlin’s approach to “A La Deriva” is more open minded, with its wealth of textures serving the music”

“Making Movies deserves to make it big. The Latin rock band's 2010 release, In Deo Speramus, fuses influences from frontman Enrique Javier Chi's native Panamanian roots with sensitive, aching guitar and crunchy rock riffs. (In practice, that looks like a lot of melodic, bilingual rock that's smart, political and completely approachable.) In Deo Speramus has local fans shouting out choruses, even if they don't habla the español (after all, the refrain "Libertad" is fairly easy to decipher, no matter how many beers you've slung that night). 2010 was great for this lil' band; let's hope that 2011 proves to be the breaking point it's been waiting for.”

“Bi-lingual and bi-cultural band Making Movies had quite a year in 2010, including being featured at this year's Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC), touring with Alejandro Marcovich of Caifanes, opening sold out shows for Los Lonely Boys, Zoe, Molotov, twenty five tour dates and a triumphant headline show at home. Throughout their touring numerous national media including AOL Musica and AOL Radio, NPR’s Weekend Edition, and Austin Vida featured Making Movies.”

“Making Movies llegó a nuestros oídos a través de Enrique Chi, el cantante de la banda. En su viaje al festival de música South by Southwest en Texas este año, Enrique conoció a nuestro colega de AOL Music y le dió su información. Una semana después, no parabamos de escuchar "La Marcha". Escogimos a Making Movies para nuestro próximo "Radar," ya que una banda Latina en Kansas City nos puso un poco curiosos. ¡Teníamos que saber su historia! ”
