Mahogany Head Grenade / Press

“The songs hold attention and are full of enjoyable Progressive Metal that is written well enough to not need a singer to be the anchor point. Here’s to more of this in the future.”

“Mahogany Head Grenade to trio z Dallas, które właśnie wydało swoją EP-kę "Return To The Point Of Departure" w dystrybucji cyfrowej.

“if you are looking for dynamic, consistent and quality instrumental heavy rock/metal then you cannot go wrong in listening”

“If you like guitar driven music, instrumentals and listening to guys like Steve Vai or Joe Satriani then Mahogany Head Grenade is the band for you.”

“For a Metal guitar enthusiast or a fan of Progressive Metal this is an album that you have to listen to, Dan Hyer does an amazing job throughout the album. There were a few times throughout the album where I would stop and playback certain parts in songs just to hear his guitar work. The timing throughout each track also helps create that perfect sound as well. Another major plus to this album is the professional recorded sound that you hear. You can tell that they took this recording seriously and didn’t simply patch the album together yet they took the time to put together a professional sounding album. Even all of the overdubs that got put in fit in with the songs and don’t sound as if they were just simply copy and pasted onto the recordings.”

“...thrashy progressive metal that just melt on your tongue like butter. It’s all done in such a way that each and every song has a face of its own, AND, more importantly, they are true songs, and not just an odd collection of riffs, hooks and solos...”

Το πολύ βαρύ, ομώνυμο “Return To The Point Of Departure” με τεχνοτροπία Vinnie Moore και πολύ καλά solo, το εξαιρετικό Dream Theater-ικό (της Octavarium εποχής) “Trouble For Trouble” είναι μια μελωδικότατη σύνθεση (σίγουρα το αγαπημένο μου), στο “Vinedresser” η μπάντα αμολάει τον οίστρο της βαδίζοντας σε fusion μονοπάτια, ενώ ακούω σπουδαίο shredding metal στα “Etude War Machine” (με το ένα αυτί να ακουμπάει στον Master Satriani) και “Venetian Bricks” (...και με το άλλο στον Vai).

Difficile pensare, però, che “Images And Words” e “The Divine Wings Of Tragedy” in versione strumentale sarebbero stati ritenuti ugualmente i capolavori che tutti noi conosciamo.

“The band members – which include guitarist Dan Hyer, drummer Mike Pritchett, and bassist James Falcon – are no amateurs to the music scene, but have found a pleasant home here. They realize that a power trio has to have just that: POWER! None of these guys slouch on this release. Hyer burns through his fretboard, Falcon has a forcefully gargantuan bass presence, and Pritchett knows just when to keep a basic back beat and when to rhythmically explore. One needs simply listen to the powerhouse track “Etude War Machine” to appreciate the energy that three men can evoke. But their killer tone also lays in the hands of their producer and engineer, Sterling Winfield (Pantera, Damageplan, Hellyeah), and mastering wizard Maor Appelbaum (Halford, Sepultura), who we must thank for helping the guys come across the speakers as they’ve done.”

“Mahogany Head Grenade is Instrumental Progressive, and I have always said that music without words is more than music. We will not go down in history to search for reasons why music needed words, let us just state that this new band, which immediately sharpens your attention to the complexity of the music, not the zombie rhymes, is worthy of special attention.”

"Return to the point of departure" CD 2013 - Voted best guitar album for the end of 2013 by Metal Zone Prod.666

“...take 33% early Van Halen, add 33% Joe Satriani and spice it up with the remaining percentage of Michael Schenker and you´ll get MHG...”

"Fans of instrumental metal albums should do themselves the favour of checking out 'Return to the Point of Departure'..."

“Mahogany Head Grenade from Dallas, Texas is Metalden Records winner of "the battle of unsigned prog metal bands" for 2013”

“...if you want to impress with a modern guitar metal album, you have to go beyond solos and hooks, and look deeper into the repertoire. And on "Return To The Point Of Departure," these three musicians have done exactly that. Maybe Mahogany Head Grenade are ready for bigger and better things.”

“...this band is perfect for guitar aficionados and instrumental Rock music lovers....”

“What a marvellous musical discovery! Vigourous and highly dexterous, featuring mind-blowing guitar work, this album will get you rockin' big time!”

“Instrumental rock progressive act Mahogany Head Grenade has created a music sense all their own”

“Well played record, progressive to the maximum...These instrumental songs works out well, leaving a solid product and another cool band to add to the book. A band with a lot of potential waiting for the chance to prove what they're really made of. Be sure to pick it up!!”

“the imagery of an explosion may be a good way of describing how much of an impression the guitar riffs will leave on you. Direct and delivered with a forceful impact, the songs on offer aren’t for casual listening but for more when you want to get the adrenaline going.”

" If you enjoy prog-influenced thrash, then you'll love this album."

“Mahogany Head Grenade has blown my mind with “Return to the Point of Departure,” an album so refreshing that I cannot stop listening to it.”

“Mahogany Head Grenade has delivered a classic piece of progressive and symphonic metal virtuosity that can shine along all those great diamonds from the past…”

“With ‘Return…’, Mahogany Head Grenade have crafted an incredibly enjoyable and explosive E.P. which does justice to the stylistic diversity on offer.”

“If you enjoy quality musicianship, a bit of shredding, and bands like Liquid Tension Experiment or guitar gods like Joe Satriani, well, you will love this band!”

“...Return to the Point of Departure, with some ethereally proggy effects and a bit of voice samples. These do a nice job as an opener, but really don’t actually prepare one for the onslaught that follows. All three members hit it in high gear, and to be honest, they never really stop till the album ends. Pritchett and Falcon are a rock solid rhythm pair, and they lay an incredibly tight foundation for Hyer to do his work.”

“An instrumental metal (instrumetal?) band from Dallas Mahogany Head Grenade represent some of the greatest musicians in the ever growing instrumental metal scene. Their heavy riffs and crazy solos are worthy of Satriani himself. It's important to note with this band that they are not in the vein of groups like Scale the Summit or Animals as Leaders, that is to say, there is nothing 'djent' about this band. Instead Mahogany Head Grenade provide some good old fashioned rocking with crazed riffs and buckets of fun solos. A band who make heads bang and hips twist their is a lot to love here. I particularly enjoy the solos, they have a crackling rock and roll energy that just makes them that much more fun. Their new record Return to the Point of Departure is a beautiful tribute to the magic that true instrumental rock can have in all of its shredding glory. Something that fans of Dream Theater, Symphony X and Andy James would love...”

“Mahogany Head Grenade may be a trio, but the power that they put out sounds so much larger than expected...The entirety of the album is surprising for an instrumental trio. There is so much raw talent in terms of composition of the music as well as the overall outcome. This is definitely a recommended album.”

“Mahogany Head Grenade is the name of a Texas based Progressive Instrumental Metal band. This band plays progressive, melodic, and heavy. This band is heavier than Scale the Summit and other Progressive Instrumental Metal bands out there. The songs "Return To The Point Of Departure","Trouble For Trouble", and "Vinedresser" have some spoken word audio samples in the songs. Other than this there are no lyrics, the songs are all instrumental. If you are a fan of Satriani and Vai and want something heavier, check this band out.”

“An eclectic mix of metal guitar riffs and hard rock drumming are at the core of Texas trio Mahogany Head Grenade. While the sound on their new release, Return to the Point of Departure, is hard to put your finger, it’s still accessible to fans of metal or instrumental [hard] rock.”

“This Texas-based band is a trio that plays Progressive Metal, but often sounds much larger than a three piece. I was pretty much instantly hooked by their sound – not just the Metal, but the approach to songwriting and their compositions.”

“These guys ROCK!! This album starts on the moon and blast off through space on highly charged guitar riffs and thunderous rhythm tracks that bring you to a state of metal infused audio insanity. If you like rocking instrumental tunes, head pounding drums, aggressive-melodic bass, and high-gain, ear bleeding guitar - give this EP a listen-and check out Mahogany Head Grenade”

“Mahogany Head Grenade, new Texas power trio that adds a touch of modern fusion to their brand of hard-rockin' instrumental metal. Great for fans of modern fusion bans like Ohm, Altered and even classic-era Jeff Beck.”

“If you like good prog rock/metal with lots of shredding, check out the new album from Mahogany Head Grenade!”

“I just finished listening to the songs on Reverb Nation and OMG I was totally blown away. As a former musician and avid fan of Dream Theater, I am constantly searching for new progressive metal music. I have to say that yours is the best that I have come across in ages! I have been pointing my friends to your reverb nation page, trying to spread the word. You guys have a really good thing going here. I wish you much success.”
