"The 2014 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival put a spotlight on the connections between Brazilian and New Orleans culture. This was the perfect unveiling for Afro-Brazilian group, LosOtros' debut album. Band leader Sam Price is a fantastic bassist who also spearheads Afro-Cuban group, OTRA. The record kicks off with an up-tempo version of “Besame Mucho.” On “La Bailadora,” which was written by Price, the band shows their versatility. Guest saxophonist, Martin Krusche plays tenor on this track. Billy Franklin has an elegant solo on guitar, and the whole track just bleeds something you would possibly hear at a bar on the coast of Brazil. Another highlight is “Voo Ave”, which features Curtis Pierre on “Brazillian percussion.” This track has a strong rhythmic backbone that makes you want to dance, as Friis chants. LosOtros provides a New Orleans reading of Afro-Brazilian music, an album that will have you dancing and wanting more..."
