"R&B, soul, blues and jazz fill upcoming weekend" "LITTLE JAKE AND THE SOUL SEARCHERS: The 67-year-old Mitchell continues to wow audiences with his silky smooth vocals and onstage charisma, and on Saturday, the singer and band will tune up with a local performance to send them off in style for an upcoming competition in Memphis. In September, Little Jake and band won the North Central Florida Blues Challenge — and won the right to advance to the International Blues Challenge set for Memphis in late January. Also born in Tampa, Mitchell gained fame as a teenage singing sensation who toured with the likes of James Brown and Sam Cooke. In 1960, his group at the time, Little Jake and the Blenders, became the first black act to perform at Gator Growl. In the 1960s, he recorded such singles as “Not a Chance in a Million” for a Detroit-based label."
