There's never been country music
Like Hank Williams used to play
And I guess that's why I still pick
Hank's kind of music to this day

The words that Hank put his pen to
Were about lost love and blues
No wonder the places I've been to
Got me walkin' in Hank Williams shoes

Romance would always play a part
Even though it was a cheatin' heart
Honky tonk blues and broken dreams
Were infused in his song's themes

Every time I put Hank's records on
They seem to give me another clue
As to why it is that I am drawn
To walkin' in Hank Williams shoes

Now as I travel with my band
I think that somehow I can see
Something about his writing hand
Wrote some of those songs of me

Hank sang about the common man
The way of life that some men choose
And tonight that's why I understand
