“Jon Hardy & The Public have been holding down a spot in the St. Louis music scene for a decade, and for whatever reason, they’ve never really got much traction outside of the Midwest. That may be changing with “Restless City,” the band’s first full-length album since 2007. Hardy’s songwriting, along with The Public’s anthemic 1984 Springsteen meets 1984 U2 sound could become to St. Louis what The Hold Steady’s first couple of albums were to Minneapolis. That is to say, a regional act going national and taking a little bit of home along for the ride. The star of “Restless City,” however, is the storytelling.”
