Q: These lyrics speak of hard edges and soft spots that I had no idea were in you... Is it true that every artist needs to suffer in order to truly get in touch with their creativity?

A: I imagine that many singer/songwriters, soul, blues and balladeers pull from their emotional experiences in the creation of their music. For me, being "broken" lead me to music as a means of survival. The expression in a song can be healing--whether for the songwriter or for the listener.
