Showtime is 8:00 pm. This is the CD Release Party for the Jim Butler Group. Jim Butler, a native Californian, has been playing the saxophone for 35 years. He plays all styles but focuses on modern and original jazz. For ten years Jim has lead The Jim Butler Jazz Group on tours in United States and Asia. They have recorded 4 CDs: Journeys (2003); Live in Tokyo! (2005); Night of a Thousand Years (2009); and their newest CD, to be released in June 2014, is called “Postcards from the World”. It is a culmination of Jim’s experiences performing music here in the Bay these last 6 years, as well as in Japan, Africa, and the Middle East. The Jim Butler Group remains very active in the San Francisco Bay Area and continues to tour internationally. Please catch the group at their next show! You can see more information at http://interjazz.com/jimbutler/ Jim started out in education, taught Jazz Studies at The University of North Florida, and has Doctorate in Music from the University of Texas at Austin. A former student of David Liebman, he’s been a saxophonist in the US Air Force Band for 18 years, where he toured both North and South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. As Director of the Air Force Commanders Jazz Ensemble, he led the group in tours throughout the Western United States: California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Idaho, and to prestigious events like the Monterey Jazz Festival.
