Jack Baldus is a professional pianist, writer and teacher, with over 10 years experience playing at the countries top cocktail bars, restaurants and live music venues. An accomplished classically trained pianist, Jack is a seasoned Jazz player, with a diverse repertoire of modern, classic, Jazz standards and soul piano sets. He is currently the resident pianist for a number of Bristol’s premier bars, from classy cocktail houses to trendy speakeasy gin joints. You can currently catch Jack playing weekly in Bristol at Milk Thistle, Hyde and Co, Alma Tavern and Theatre, and Pizza Express Clifton.
Originally from Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, Jack began his love affair with the piano aged 7 playing live at school and by the age of 15 had regular residencies in Hereford playing in the cities cocktail bars and restaurants. A grade 8 Pianist, Jack received the Outstanding Achievement in Music Performance from Leeds College of Music before graduating with a distinction in Jazz and Popular Music studies.
Jack is a well known performer on the live music circuit, having played with legends like Don Blackman, Pee Wee Ellis, Omar Puente and The Sugar Hill Gang, as well as popular modern acts such as Amp Fiddler, The Haggis Horns, Chunky Butt Funky, The Yellow Jackets, James Morton and James Mason.
Jack is an excellent fit at any scale of venue, having a wealth of experience playing at intimate cocktail bars and private functions, alongside giant arenas and high street chains. His past residencies and events have seen him traverse the country to the Birmingham and Oxford o2’s, Bristol Hippodrome, Radison Blu and Anson Rooms, the Leeds Hilton Hotel and Roundhouse Theatre and Pizza Express and Browns in London’s Covent Garden to name but a few.
Jack has also written and composed for a number of signed recording artists, with his penmanship featuring on albums for internationally renowned reggae artists, popular rock and indie bands and critically acclaimed hip hop acts across the UK.
As a talented DJ with an immensely varied and well researched record collection, Jack has played his unique vinyl only sets at some of the countries biggest clubs and best soul, funk and rare groove nights.
With his wealth of musical influences and experience, Jack can provide a tailored performance for your individual needs, with genres ranging from 1930’s-40’s swing and jazz standards, Latin, traditional and contemporary jazz, to modern Soul and Pop, Motown, Soul and Funk, as well as classical, Cabaret Showtunes and film and television themes. All the genres listed can be performed as a solo artist, a duo of piano and vocals, piano and drums , jazz trio, jazz quartet, or Soul-Funk quartet.
