Are We Alone? Earths, Super-Earths, and Hot Jupiters Dates and Times: March 15, 7:30PM-9:00PM For about 15 years, astronomers have been able to discover planets around stars other than the Sun. More recently we have begun to find more Earth-like planets. USM Professor Julie Ziffer will discuss the planetary conditions necessary to support life, the latest techniques used for planet detection, and the current state of knowledge of Earths, Super-Earths, and Hot-Jupiters. This is the first in a series of monthly public science lectures and will be followed by a brief Planetarium show.
