“Granted Earth has been melting faces around the Peninsula, and beyond, since 2009. The sludge-metal trio's 2013 single "Beside Yourself" pulsates in hypnotically distorted glory alongside Jon Ugale's vocals that roar like a hot-tempered lion.”
“Listening to Granted Earth is like having a gun in my hand, I felt a surge of power…like God must feel when he’s holding a gun. ”
“Speaking of post-metal… Granted Earth, a three-piece from Monterey, CA, dabble in post-metal, mixing it with stoner rock and sludge and topping it all off with a progressive flair. Previously an instrumental band, the trio have added vocals (done by Jon, the drummer, who is also the only member of the band with a Y chromosome), and the result is some solid, if not wholly original, stoner metal. The duo of Rebecca (guitars) and Mallory (bass) is pretty formidable, delivering some serious riffage and keeping things varied and interesting.”
“You guys rocked the shit out of the stork last night!! WOWZA!!!! I never buy CD's, but you had me at note 1. ”
"Influenced by the likes of bands such as Tool, Neurosis and Opeth, Monterey, California's three-piece Granted Earth stupefy with their eclectic brand of Progressive Sludge metal. The band consisting of Jon Ugale (Drums/Vocals), Becky Ugale (Guitar), and Mallory Mickel (Bass) meanders their way through seductive progressive rhythms, fluid bass lines, captivating guitar sequences and tops it off with the addition of horrified screaming vocals. Absolutely fucking brilliant!"
“The two chicks in front are hot. The one in the back is hella uggs!”
“The guys were mainly an Instrumental Sludge/Post-Metal band on their outstanding first release. But the guys made a brave decision in adding vocals to their new release - Nomad. And it's a decision that pays off brilliantly. As Jon's vocals sound of a tortured soul going through like the title suggests. A Nomadic journey into the unknown. ”
“Both of these releases are full of epic sludge/post-metal riffs that NEUROSIS, ISIS and PELICAN made famous. But this band really add their own vibes to the Sludge/Post Metal arena. They mix in some excellent Progressive Rock as well to truly stand out from the crowd. How these guys are not bigger I don't know. The guitars are handled superbly by Becky and Mallory. They both bring a sense of calm and urgency to proceedings before they go into Sludge/Post-Metal overdrive when the loud and heavy Post-Metal riffs kick in. The drumming is superb as well. Really driving the music along through the loud and quiet passages that you expect from Sludge/Post-Metal bands. ”
"Influenced by the post-rock and sludge metal pioneers of Isis, Pelican, Neurosis and Swedish progressive heavy metal band Opeth, ‘Thermal Tide’ sees the band take the best elements of each of these bands, while putting their own stamp on the experimental metal genre. ...Although the album is mainly instrumental, the occasional addition of vocals as well as synths and flutes, helps expands the bands sound and sets them apart from their counterparts and with the in-definite hiatus of Isis, there is a void to be filled in the post-rock genre and who knows, Granted Earth might just be the band to fill that void."
