“How does the solo project differ from other work you've done, like Funny Like a Funeral? Just from listening to the album there seems to be a tonal shift. Though FLAF lyrics were definitely dark there were usually tongue in cheek or were accompanied by humor. Was this a conscious effort on your part? If so, why? A: Well, the solo record definitely has more of a down tempo, for the most part. And I guess it has more of a tender and haunting vibe to a lot of it. It's definitely a very personal record. I kind of wanted to go in a different direction than, lets say, Funny Like A Funeral but at the same time, it wasn't really too much of a conscious effort. I went through a really dark period after we broke up and the record is really the narrative of that period. I kind of just started writing songs and the record is what came out. It's also super DIY. It's the first time I've ever done any recording. I really learned what I was doing as I went along.”
