Friday, March 1, 2013 8:00pm until 1:00am RUDIE CREW - (SET TIME: 12:00 AM Midnight Attraction) El Husey & Dan Dulin, upon leaving the Ska fusion band Skinnerbox, formed a new band dedicated to Reggae and Ska with Dancehall vocal stylings. The Rudie Crew began rehearsing in a dank studio on Ludlow Street just south of Houston and knew right from the first that a new and exciting sound had been hatched. The original singers were David Greene and Sherwin (Sherankin') and an amazing drummer named Junior (Cliffton Anglin). The Rudie Crew released its debut album “Invasion” in 2003, follow up “Ride” in 2005, and groundbreaking "This Is Skragga!" in 2011. The Rudie Crew is signed to Megalith Records and is currently touring to support "This Is Skragga!". After many years and numerous personnel changes the Rudie Crew has a solid line up of veteran all-stars up with Roy Radics fronting the band and the songs developing a more progressive sound. MK GROOVE ORCHESTRA - (SET TIME: 11:00 PM) The MK Groove Orchestra is not your grandparents big band, the MKGO is equal parts rock band and jazz band, drawing upon all sounds and cultures that inspire them. Musical omnivores to say the least, depending on what night you see the group, you may be treated to a transcription of a B side from an obscure old school funk 45, the opening theme of a Bruce Lee film, a rendition of a classic recording by a cuban orchestra from the 50s or a classic rock anthem...most likely all of the above. The MKGO's originals also have an equal sense of adventure and breadth, written with clarity and purpose and performed integrity, intensity and virtuosity. Imagine all this...wrapped in face melting guitars. FUNKFACE - (SET TIME: 10:00 PM) As the great city of Gotham undergoes its many phases, only one thing remains the same... FunkFace kicks ass .No doubt one of the greatest live rock bands going, FunkFace are the nagging pain in the side of conformity, blending what you know with what you haven’t heard striving to split you in half with sonic fits of joy. So sweet and bitter at the same time .Hard driving grooves uplifting you to melodic chorus peppered with political rants hidden behind sweet come-ons screamed at the top of your lungs. The five piece unit has been blazin the New York massive for years. Make no mistake about it, They've been around the block, in your mom's house and up the river and down many times over. Lead singer Luqman‘s vocal assault stirs the swarm while the rhythm section Frank beans (bass) Jeff Free (rhythm guitar ) and Ramsey Jones (drums) stagger the senses. Leaving Jerome Jordan (lead guitar) to ignite the hive into heated frenzy. Hard rock will never be the same; this bands sound has remnants of a punk age, hard rock with a little twist of hip hop, soul and ska. The ultimate fuse, total groove rock. Many have referred to as Soul Core. BIGGER THOMAS - (SET TIME: 9:00 PM) Celebrating 25 years of ska and reggae in 2013!! Bigger Thomas continues to keep crowds moving and grooving to their patented version of reggae ska that includes a heavy dose of traditional and 2-Tone ska thrown in for good measure. The band reflects the cultural diversity of the city they call home with members who have roots in the NYC metropolitan area as well as Haiti, Jamaica, Canada and the UK. Best known for their upbeat ska-pop song "Ska in My Pocket" they now play a diverse style encompassing ska, reggae, calypso, punk, african and latin rythyms. Their Megalith Records release "We Wear The Mask" was recorded at Version City Studios and produced/mixed by King Django. The band's most recent efforts "Resisting Success" and "Bigger Thomas" a CD/DVD reissue of their first out-of-print LP are also available online at biggerthomas.com, megalithrecords.com and itunes.com.
