Even Latin Jazz wasn’t completely safe from this bizarre new idea, and at times, it was treated like a second-class citizen by the powers that be. The Cubans, who have played an important role in the history of Jazz since its birth, never developed those hangups (remember Irakere?), and the the AC Jazz Project, includes some former members of some of Cuba’s best Jazz and dance bands (Klimax, Maraca, NG La Banda Opus 13, Grupo Afrocuba) throw down some serious Timba, Cuba’s hottest dance music, in addition to Afro-Cuban Jazz. Their North American experience is also vast: some of these cats have performed in Doc Severinsen’s orchestra, Phil Collins and too many other prominent bands to mention. Let Conga Buena feed your mind AND make you move at the same time. You really CAN do both at once without feeling guilty about it… ~ Bill William Tilford About Catalina Bar & Grill: Catalina Bar & Grill has certainly lived up to its slogan "Nothing But The Best In Jazz" by presenting a veritable Who's Who of jazz legends such as Dizzie Gillespie, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Ray Brown, Joe Williams, Max Roach, Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, Ron Carter, Joe Henderson, Benny Carter,Tony Williams, Joe Zawinul, Marcus Miller, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Michael Brecker, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jimmy Scott and many more.
