STOKES Returns Home to Headline Historic Majestic Theatre on October 15th F. Stokes (aka Rodney Lucas) was born and raised in Chicago to a single mother household. His father is serving a life sentence in prison for murder. He moved to Madison at the age of 12 where he found a community that has lifted him up and nurtured his talent as a rapper/poet/spoken wordsmith. Though he now lives in Brooklyn, he calls Madison his home, showering the city he loves with praise at every opportunity. "This place gave me hope," says Stokes. "It gave me something to dream about and work towards. And when I come back home this city makes me feel like a superstar. I'm so grateful to be from such a loving place and I'm proud to call it my hometown." Talk to anyone that has seen him live and they'll tell you that F. Stokes stage presence is simply captivating. He attracts and engages crowds of all demographics and backgrounds, by mixing provocatively cutting lyrics, with superb stage-presence and crowd participation. His content is elevated and has been described as "aspirational and optimistic". He has performed in venues ranging from intimate art gallery’s in the historical neighborhood of Chelsea in New York City, to the world renowned Elysee Montmartre in Paris, France. Stokes tailors a unique show set that equally utilizes performance spaces of all builds. In his most recent show in Madison, he was able to sell out The Frequency with less than 24 hours of promotional lead time. "Rodney called me on a Monday and said he was going to be in town on Tuesday and wanted to do a show," says Majestic co-owner Matt Gerding. "I got in touch with Darwin at the Frequency. He amazingly had the date available so we confirmed it and Rodney started promoting." In less than 24 hours F. Stokes was able to mobilize his fan base in Madison through Facebook and Twitter and sell out the 150 capacity Frequency that night. "I'm not gonna lie...that felt pretty good" says Stokes. Stokes is currently working on a new EP titled "Love, Always" that will come out on Christmas Day and feature production from an array of international producers. He is also in the process of creating a new spoken word genre of music titled "Hip Lit", which is short of Hip Literature, and has started attracting a great deal of industry attention. "I'm talking to some pretty big named agents in New York. It's getting really exciting." says Stokes. He returns to Madison for a headline date at the Majestic Theatre and is supported by some of Madison's best and brightest local talent, including Dumate, Man Mantis, J. Dante, and DJ Radish. All for the low price of $5. "When I come to town I don't like to charge my fans much to come see me. It's sort of my way of giving back to the place that give me light," says Stokes. It's hard not to support a price, and and attitude, like that. http://www.fdotstokes.com http://www.myspace.com/fstokesmusic http://fstokesmusic.blogspot.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeSI-6ZSeCA Show Info: Saturday, October 15 - 9PM F.
