Doctor Doom Orchestra / Press

"The greatest thing about Doctor Doom Orchestra’s sound is the amount of genre-blending present, and their ability to seamlessly combine so many different musical influences into one coherent product."

"Exuberance and a polyglot mix of horn-driven ska, hip-hop rhymes, and an old-fashioned guitar solo or two drive this Boston eight-piece formerly known as Doctors of Flight. Now reborn with a darker moniker, but no less upbeat disposition, Doctor Doom Orchestra delivers an impressively self-assured debut EP that clocks in at seven tracks and nearly as many stylistic touchstones. While none of it will sound groundbreaking to anyone familiar with the myriad jam-rock and third wave ska syntheses that took hold in the ’90s, the group’s fast-fire raps, bright instrumentation and tight arrangements, and sturdy yet elastic sense of melody spark standout tracks like “Deep in the Green’’ and “Spin the World.’’ Also not insignificant to the outfit’s growing appeal as a live act is its array of male/female voices that are as texturally diverse — smooth, rugged, soaring — as they are strong and soulful."

"From the opening title track, “Off the Ground,” to the closer (and current single), “Heartbeat,” this album is like a cool drink of water/lemonade/beer on a hot day. All I can picture while I listen to it is being outside and barefoot- with a joint in my hand and a smile on my face. The music is effortlessly enjoyable, and provides the same chilled-out contentment as bands like Sublime, 311 and [insert your favorite summer stoner music here]. And while there’s something to be said for this type of musical familiarity that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, DDO does manage to stand out from the pact. This is largely attributed to the female vocalist of the group, known as Andrea T. Holy crap her voice is awesome. She adds a totally unique dimension to the album and takes songs like “Spin the World” and “Ride Out” from really good to really really friggin’ good."

"In a city with a very limited selection of good reggae bands, it’s good to see Doctor Doom Orchestra rise up from the ashes of the Doctors of Flight and keep this reggae rock style going! We knew our TOTW was gonna come from this EP as soon as it hit our desk, but wow was it tough to pick a favorite off of it! Immediately after the first listen, 3 tracks in particular jumped out at us – “Ride Out,” “Badlands,” and “Deep In The Green.” We highly recommend checking them out for yourself – we’ll give you this taste, but if you want more you’ll have to head on over to DDO country! The album is set for worldwide release on Friday, April 15th, head over to the DDO website to find out how to pick up a copy for yourself!"

“If you see the Doctor Doom Orchestra in performance any time soon, you might notice that one of the band members is a bit older than the others. While most of the group — which releases its first CD, “Off the Ground,’’ on Friday — are in their late 20s, Dan Fassett is more than twice their age. The 61-year-old Groton contractor and youth worker only recently started performing on stage, and took a most unusual path to get there. Music has long been part of his life, Fassett said. In the fall of 2009, the band helped organize a benefit concert in Amherst called “Be the One’’ to raise awareness of student substance abuse, and to raise money for the university’s prevention efforts. Last fall marked the second annual “Be the One’’ benefit.”
