For one thing, she doesn’t strike you as a DJ, at least when she is in her formals.”

“Colleen Goredema, aka DJ Naida, has been making waves at the Rainbow Towers-based night club, Stars, after returning from South Africa where she rocked entertainment the scene last year. The energetic 24-year-old DJ recently scooped the Clint, Al and Rex’s DJ Battle competition at the Andy Miller Hall in Harare. She walked away with a trophy and $500. As a club disc-jockey, Naida said she was not choosy about the type of music she plays as long as it satisfies revellers. “I play everything that I think the people love,” she said. Her love for music started at a tender age and with the passage of time, she said, she began writing her own songs. While in South Africa, Naida played for various night spots in Port Elizabeth including the popular Gondwana’s Captains, Gypsy Jack and Dash.”

“Not so long ago word on the streets had it that a certain young lady DJ was tearing up club turntables. Haters quickly and rather heartlessly pointed out that she was eating off the rarity of being a female spinner. Colleen Naida Goredema answered her critics the best way possible- by musically blowing up dance floors across the capital, but none more than her base, Stars Nite Club. DJ Naida And then to really drive the point home, the chic on the turntables outspun a number of her more illustrious male colleagues to clinch the Clint, Al and Rex’s DJ Battle trophy. Then you get DJ Naida and, well, she's all kinds of special! One thing they do have in common, though, is that X-factor - you can feel it every time you're near her. Here's the science:”

“Later, it was time for the battled of the DJs and seven of them all from clubs in Harare and Bulawayo made their presence felt as they played hit after hit much to the delight of music lovers. “One of Zimbabwe's hottest Dj's to ever touch the tables has given us an exclusive insight into her musical journey! Prepare to enter Dj Naida's world... Who is Dj Naida? My name is Colleen Danai Goredema aka Dj Naida and I am a female DJ born and raised in H-town (Harare), Zimbabwe. I’ve always had a serious passion for music. I got into recording and producing my own stuff in my teens but I never pursued it seriously. Eventually I got tired of it and when I was at university in Port Elizabeth South Africa, I discovered Dj-ing. I started Dj-ing in SA in 2008 and I was the only female DJ in my area, which was awesome. I have played at a few places and in April /May 2010 I entered a Dj battle called the ‘Clint, Al and Rax Dj Battle’ and I came first. That was an exciting moment in my life because I was the only female Dj who took part. The truth is I love Dj-ing. Music is a beautiful and amazing thing.. This is my gift, this is what I was born to do!”

“Born Colleen Danai Goredema, Dj Naida has always been in the fast lane chasing her dreams. She has managed to do what a lot of women are scared to do. With her grind finally paying off, an album and video on the way, It is with no doubt the lady carries the torch and broke the barries. Dj Naida is big enough to carry "Beyond Ent" on her back and I m hoping in 2011, Zim will witness more female Djs take up the booth at clubs and parties. Greedysouth's Godwin Mungwadzi caught up with her for this exclusive up close and personal interview.”
