Bio Meeting via a chance YouTube sighting and fueled by a rare musical chemistry, Dan Frechette, guitar/vocals, and Laurel Thomsen, violin/vocals, both powerful and magnetic talents in their own rights, prove that musical magic is not only possible, but alive and quite well. In a relatively short time frame, the Alt-folk duo has both overcome incredible external adversity and in 2013 alone circumnavigated North America, performing over 130 concerts and producing their debut CD. With exuberance, heartwarming harmonies, soundtrack ready violin and guitar lines, and stories of irony and triumph, wit and humor, delighted audience members speak of "falling in love" with music all over again at their concerts. Over the course of 25,000 miles together, Dan and Laurel also fell in love, were married in May 2014, and are now based on the California Central Coast. Dan Frechette, Canadian entertainer, acoustic guitarist, uncanny impressionist, and prolific singer-songwriter with over 1300 songs across all acoustic genres, including the The Duhks’ hit singles "Mists of Down Below" and "You Don't See It", has been performing high-energy and soulful concerts throughout North America and Europe since 1992. He is considered to be one of Canada's best on acoustic guitar and harmonica and 'Sing Out!' magazine has also called Dan "one of the most talented singer-songwriters I've heard in a long time." Laurel Thomsen, American genre-bending violinist, composer, and respected educator, delivers perfection with every note she plays or sings. With an unforgettable tone and a way of offering every musical line or silence as a gift of grace, she has been performing classically since 1998 and sought out by bands and singer-songwriters since 2002 for her ability to add depth and emotion to diverse musical styles and her knack for creating infectious melodies. The host of the Violin Geek Podcast, an author of two multi-media guides to string playing technique, and private lessons teacher to students around the world since 1996, Laurel's light is spreading far and wide. With influences ranging from Folk, Classical, Old Time and Celtic, to Gospel, Jazz, Vintage Country, Rock N' Roll, Blues and Bluegrass, Dan and Laurel flow seamlessly through genres, tempos, stories, and moods, embodying each style with virtuosic command. “He's the kind of song-writer that can practically charm the birds out of the trees with his sencerity and earnest language and has obviously looked at life from more than one angle."”
