Rock out with Charlie Darwins + Crooked Toad + Event Horizon + Kalico at the Annex
Crooked Toad is as 'Portland' as Music Gets Written, recorded, and produced at their in-home recording studio, Crooked Toad's sound is a bluesy hard rock and uniquely grungy funk that is as smooth as it is raw and clean. There is nothing 'studio' about Crooked Toad. A fully local effort, this is the kind of grassroots music Portland is becoming known for. Justin Phelps mastered their debut EP 'The Tadpole Diaries' at Portland's own Cloud City Sound, and additional production was provided by Stan Jones, Jim Wilcox, and Jeff Ommert. The brainchild of Travis Gates and Tommy Barth in late 2011, Crooked Toad looks forward to celebrating with you at Tonic Lounge Saturday June 29th. Where the new release will be available for purchase. Crooked Toad also includes Lennon Dey on guitar, Alex Moore on bass, and Stan Jones plays keyboards on the record. There is a bill full of local bands for the party including Cambrian Explosion, Kaizen Rex, Dope Ass Kats, and Eric Alexander Moore.

“Last Tuesday, December 27th at Tiger Bar a relatively unproven band named Crooked Toad embodied this concept a little bit early–a very good omen–emerging from an ambivalent obscurity into the now defined role of a certified stage presence. Amidst the thick stripes slashed across the walls in dull yellow beams and the orange murk reminiscent of the dank confines of a–surprise!–tiger den, this confident local outfit stepped onto the stage and created a body of work that was at times ferociously alive, and at others unruffled and smooth.”
