CRACKER the BOX / Press

“On Saturday night, we went to the Civic Media Center for a concert by Cracker the Box, one of our favorite bands, and a woman named Kathleen Taylor. I’ve reviewed Cracker the Box before, two amazing musicians who create the most extraordinary music on cigar boxes converted into guitars. (Somebody in the audience obviously didn’t believe this – he kept asking, “But what are they made of?” “Cigar boxes, really!”) They had a new drummer, Jared Groom, who was wonderful, kept a low-key beat that allowed Cracker the Box to maintain their distinct style. It’s not easy for a drummer to be subdued :). The band is putting out a new album soon and I can’t wait.”

“Opening the "BUDDY GUY SHOW" is"CRACKER the BOX" featuring Anthony Kavouklis. "a young guitarist who by age 10 had already performed publicly in Gainesville including with Glenn “Hamhock” Moody, who at the time played in an area duo called Hamhock & Slide, says Anthony's father, Pete Kavouklis. “He had been playing in clubs in Gainesville sitting in with other bands since he was about 8, between 8 and 9 years old,” Pete Kavouklis says. “So when this thing happened with Buddy, there were a lot of other people who knew him from seeing him in places play.” On Saturday, Anthony will return to the Phillips Center to open Guy's performance. The young guitarist will join the duo Cracker the Box, which includes Moody and Don Blitch, for an acoustic-trio performance to open the show." ”
