Countess / Press

“This is an insanely catchy release, especially for this genre. There’s a strong Old-School, NWOBHM feel to a lot of the riffs and the songs in general; combined with the raspy vocals and the heavy keyboards the songs just melt in your mouth and saturate the brain . . . The band may have been around for over two decades now but they’re still a much-needed force to reckon with. Give them a listen and prepare to be hooked.”

“On the whole, if you liked Venom's "Black Metal" or Bathory's "Hammerheart", you would absolutely love this album. Countess is every bit as integral to the history of black metal as those guys. If you only like polished, modern sounding extreme metal, you're not going to dig this.”

“Burning Scripture continues in the certain vein of mixing traditional heavy metal elements into Bathory inspired black metal. All in all Burning Scripture is a great album - I can’t find a moment when I wouldn’t enjoy it.”

“Of course, I couldn't conclude this review without mentioning the monumental epic of a finale, Schemering Der Goden, a 14-minute monster of a track, which easily ranks up there with past epics like "All The Master's Children"and "The Wrath Of Satan's Whore", crushing all in its path with its storming metallic purity. It's songs like these that truly elevate Countess to the upper echolon of black metal's finest. Well, that and the fact that absolutely no one sounds like them, nor does it seem to possible for any band to even attempt to replicate their unique sound.”

“Holocaust of the God Believers has a lot more variety than Spawn of Steel did. Every single song has something different in it, and after tons of spins I'm still finding new things to like about it. If you already like this band, there's no excuse for not getting this. If you haven't heard Countess yet, this is a very good place to start. Highest recommendations.”

“Countess heeft een eigen niche binnen de black metal gevonden: rauwe, maar melodieuze muziek, oprecht teruggrijpend op zowel oude black metal als heavy metal.Voor mensen die nog niet bekend zijn met Countess: reken je zowel Iron Maiden en Manowar, maar ook Bathory en Nifelheim tot je favorieten? Dan kun je niet om deze band heen. Oprechte metal met hoofdletter ‘M’.”
