“4-STARS | Charles Danek, a.k.a. Coin, has again proven that jazz and americana go well together on the simply impressive Ride What You Can t Change. The album is defined as a jazz/americana travelogue, and travel it does through song titles like Start Over in Ohio and Colorado Bound. The music is not only concerned with the notes, but especially the spaces that exist between them. Melodies crawl down the fingerboard of the stand up bass, are lifted by jazzy piano notes, and get brushed along atop the skin of the snare, all with phrasing that is uncommon for roots music. American Vesper is an elegant song, on which Coin gets vocal support from guests including Tomasina Abate & the legendary Jim Kweskin, who also adds some banjo. Over all, the relaxed groove on Ride What You Can t Change is extremely addictive and this album is a must have!”
